Aspirin is normally prescribed alongside Ticagrelor, then when Ticagrelor stops Aspirin continues, for life in most cases.

I stop mine in 2 weeks, I had the same questions about weaning off it. But regular aspirin is on my forever prescription, and my gp assured me that I just stop the ticagrelor.. Apparently 6 months is enough time to use it but they keep it on a for 12 as a matter of cause

The reason I wanted to remain on Ticagrelor after the first year is that I saw online an article by NICE the medical authority that decides what drugs can be given and whether cost effective, they recommended that someone who had a heart attack and stent fitted like I had should remain on Ticagrelor for a further 3 years after the 1st year, bearing in mind they decide who gets what drugs and price, for them to suggest this convinced me that is what should be done and I asked on quoting what NICE said to my GP who then arranged for me to see a Cardiologist who agreed that I should have it, This coming August I have to come off it after 4 years and have to admit that worries me.

Ive read a few things on forums and spoken to my gp who all come back with the same 12 month thing. I've not heard of anyone having issues with stopping ticagrelor, bu tif they did they had underlying problems. I'm certain of this...i won't miss the bloody bruises 😁

Have to admit I’ve had some very large bruises so won’t miss them, I will just have to have faith in Aspirin for the future, my GP hadn’t heard of NICE’s views when I spoke to him and was honest enough to say that but looked into it and said I was right and then referred me to a Cardiologist but at the end of the day I do now have to stop them.

Thank you for answering me and good luck to you for the future.

Thank you for answering, I have been on Ticagrelor for 4 years ending in August this year, after the first year i saw a Cardiologist privately as I was worried about coming off Ticagrelor and he said amongst other medical problems I’ve got he felt it should be extended for another 3 years as I have diabetes and I suppose where I feel unsafe is that of course I still have diabetes and wonder how much risk I’ll be in when I stop Ticagrelor in August this year. I had a drug induced stent done.

Hope all is good with you

I was given clopidogrel (in top of aspirin) when my Ticagrelor was stopped.

Thank you, thats another blood thinner, did they say why they put you on that as from what I can gather once the Ticagrelor is stopped apart from Aspirin nothing else is usually given.

in reply to Rosiemycat

After STEMI one stent (LAD). Clot in stent developed. Three weeks later PCI again and stent in RAC. Few weeks later more issues and further angiogram. Needed clopidogrel to improve things as far as I know.
