Has anyone heard or read that there can be a link between suffering from acid reflux and the onset of Afib?

Be very interested to hear, thank you

I haven’t heard or read but I know I did have acid reflux for almost a year and then developed AFIb. I’ve been taking tablets for my reflux and the AFIb has disappeared. It could be Coincidence but who knows!!

I had to increase my prescription for oMeprazole. This is due to the medication that I was taking following my stent. I believe this can be quite normal. But check with your doctor. Don’t suffer in silence!

Thank you all for your replies ,very interesting .I have suffered from acid reflux for a couple of years and last year was diagnosed with Afib .

I have taken Lansoprazole on and off but after a corroboration was prescribed Sotalol and Xarelto and stopped taking the Lansoprazole ,didn't want to take so many drugs !

I am now suffering from chest pains ,that send me running for the heart monitor ,but as my pulse seems regular ,I think it must be down to acid reflux .

I hope to see the cardiologist next week so will ask more then .

I think Xarelto is quite acidic .

If he tells me anything new ,will pass it on

Definitely there is a connection in my case. I had an awful time with acid reflux and my afib started during that time. I have noticed over the many years since that gastric issues are a constant trigger for my arrhythmia.

My medics accept this and gastro and cardiology are working together ongoing to try to mitigate this issue for me,

The stomach and heart aren’t far apart and the Vagus nerve may be implicated as it serves most organs

A link here and there are many others if you search. There are also articles saying that acid reflux treatments can cause AF. Also look for connections between the vagus nerve and AF,

Hi, I have been suffering from these symptoms for a long time. Initially doctors said it was Afib and later SVT. Heart condition/ pulse up to 140b/mins and stomach pain at the same time.

Taking Bisoprolol for heart and Rabeprazole for stomach/H.pylori and Fortisip/mainly liquid diet.

I am in the hospital right now awaiting for a doctor, could not hold any liquid for 5 days. As soon as I drink water or Fortisip reflux acid and high pulse, chills and fever make me like passing out.

My diet is manly blended vegetables/fruits/salmon.Drink clear chicken broth. Lost weight from 83kg to 61kg.

Done a lot of research and found in one of the books was mentioned stomach hernia/trapped wind/indigestion could cause breathless and high heart rate.

A specialist/gastroenterologist might give a better explanation.

Sorry can’t help more.

All the best.
