Hypermagnesemia and arrhythmias.

This Monday morning I had a telephonic consultation with my haematologist about my complete blood test and all was fine.

Then in the evening I had a piece of dark chocolate and my magnesium tablet.

An hour later my heart made a jump and then sharp palpitations started. HB was 32 while my normal is twice that. It was accompanied with some chest pain and dizziness.

It was a constant 32 beats pm and every 5 or so minutes it would double for about 6 beats then back to 32 pm.

This has never happened to me before but I know it may be 2:1 AV Block where only every second pulse gets past the AV Node to the ventricles.

My research showed this;

Hypermagnesemia can cause

"Altered atrioventricular conduction and (further) complete heart block".

Scary but I went to sleep and woke up fine.

Anyone had this or have some thoughts?

Just to add before everyone rushes to add to this post.

If you have AVNRT or AV Node Re entry Tachycardia as many of us do and you also get some types of Heartblock either 2:1 or 3:1 AV block, Mobitz 2 then ablations would not be done.

Only a pacemaker would help.
