Just looking to see if anyone else here has experienced anything similar. I am a 52 year old male, who has always been reasonably fit and well until last summer when woke up with severe cramp in one calf, could hardly walk. Decided to go to A&E where I was diagnosed with a DVT. Was prescribed Apixiban and told there were no underlying causes, just one of those things. 6 weeks later went back to A&E as couldn't hardly breathe, where I was then diagnosed with clots over both lungs too. Have been advised that the clots on lungs are not due to them breaking off from the DVT. After now what feels months of chasing, and a further two CT scans which have shown my lungs have not deteriorated any further, however, no improvement, my consultant has now referred me for an ultrasound of the heart and has said he is not prepared to say what he thinks is wrong until results are in. I have had an ECG which has come back fine and several blood tests which confirmed everything was fine in my heart. Am suffering from extreme fatigue since being diagnosed with the clots and severe breathlessness. Sleep is broken every night and have had a severe cough which I cannot explain for about the past 18 months.
Many thanks,

Many people have Covid and remain asymptomatic. You could ask for an antibody test to see if in fact you have had the virus without knowing. Blood clotting is one of the characteristics of Covid, but usually in more serious cases. It wouldn't change the treatment offered to you but would rule out Covid as the cause.
Thanks for your reply. Yes I was thinking of this incase I had been asymptomatic, although my cough started before covid was known in the UK. I will have a look into this option. Thank you.
Sorry to hear about your problems. You don't mention medication other than Apixaban, so presumably that is all that you are on. Had your cough started after taking something like Ramipril, then that would be the reason. I wonder whether it is like what happened to me many years ago when I got a cough with a bad cold and it continued on as a habit after I had got over the cold. It took months to stop it. Just a thought.
As to the blood clots, I wonder whether you have had your homocysteine level measured. My heart attack was caused by a blood clot and after tests I was diagnosed with a high homocysteine level, thankfully in my case treatable with folic acid (Vitamin B). For me it was hereditary and "just one of those things".
I hope that all proves to be well with your heart and the cause of your ills lies elsewhere and is treatable. All the best,
Thank you. Yes that's the only medication i am on and have never been on anything regular previously. In the first lockdown I suffered from an infection in one of my teeth and when treated with antibiotics my cough disappeared so initially thought it may be bacterial/viral however it has persisted a d is now resistant against the antibiotics and steroids I was prescribed after the clots were found. My glands are still up so my body is obviously fighting something despite blood tests coming back clear. That's very interesting to know, thank you. I was wondering if I maybe had a clot in an artery etc not sure if that's even possible. I'm not sure what blood tests they were other than the doctor said my heart ones had came back clear. I will email her and ask. Thank you once again. Wishing you well.
You might have difficulty getting a homocysteine test. Most GPs don't know what it is even. I asked for one last year and was greeted with a complete lack of understanding, that despite the Pathologist having written to my GP indicating it was an issue for me. If I don't get any joy this year, I will be looking to get tested privately.
In the area I live in (which is pretty rural compared to most places) I have lost count of the people that I've personally come across that have had some kind of heart, circulation or CV event during this "pandemic"!
I know a very fit young man, 26 years old with no history of anything, simply dropping down dead one day last year. Heart attack!!??
Another, 28 year old, again no previous history simply collapsing for no apparent reason. Now in a vegetative state.???
Another, 40 year old, drops dead one day, no apparent reason.
Another, a 19 year old, again a sudden collapse while driving. Dead. At 19???? I could go on and these people were/are known to me. Personally.
Also the amount of people locally that are now finding themselves having to take heart medications because they're having arrhythmias and/or unexplained cardiac events.
These are not "normal" occurences. These things simply do not happen in this area, in such high instances and for "No apparent reason"! I'm no conspiracy theorist but common sense tells me that there is "something" not right. Virus? Maybe? Unexplained odd deaths and illnesses? Yes definitely. Too many to simply brush off as coincidence.
I would not discount anything in this current climate. Keep onto the GP's, doctors, cardiologists etc etc and demand something is done.
In the meantime, take some magnesium/calcium/vit D supplements. Boots do a good one. Also some Vit C.
Practically everyone is low on Vitamin D since these lockdowns. There have been numerous studies which show that a supplement like the one above has been effective in fighting this virus. Stands to reason that people who are indoors are going to be lacking in vitamin/minerals. Could be a major factor in the virus longevity by simply being inside???
Hi. Whilst I respect your expressed opinions, when you mention people you know of, that have sadly died during the pandemic, I don't think you mentioned wether they had ever had Covid, knowingly or not (asymptomatic).
Would be interesting to know what the causes of death were cited, presumably following post-mortem.
I think it may be wise to not just assume that these tragic deaths were directly linked to Covid because persons were young, fit and healthy.
Indeed, they may have thought of themselves that way too.
But, there are heart conditions that can take your life in an instant, no pre-warning, nothing. I know this as it is a condition that I have been diagnosed with myself.
It's called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy aka "sudden death syndrome".
Most people dont even know they have it. I most certainly didn't ! It's a progressive, genetic heart disease, to which there is no cure - just management with medication and surgical intervention. And of course being an inherited disease, the implications for blood family members is far reaching and can have a devastating impact for relatives.
Remember hearing on the news, from time to time about various professional "fit" football or rugby players, that just collapsed and died on the pitch, in the middle of a match??
A pound to a penny, HC would have been the most likely culprit.
So just worth bearing in mind when talk turns to Covid.
