Could this be angina?

Frequently in recent weeks I have felt a tightness in my chest. It feels almost like its a muscular cramp, from my left neck diagonally down through the left of my chest, but I know its not muscular. It comes on anytime; today I woke up with it. It doesn't seem to be related to physical exercise. Does this sound like angina?

I'm an otherwise healthy 50 year-old male, exercising roughly 3 times weekly, with a relatively healthy lifestyle. My father had angina so that's why I wonder if it could be this.

Good morning. I think it would be good if you made an appointment with your GP. It's better to know what's going on otherwise you're probably only going to worry anyway. Good luck

Ask your doctor to send you for exercise stress test , that should show something up in either blood pressure or ecg ,while you exercise , you don’t say if it hurts when you exercise ,,,,,that’s how I found out I had a blockage in LAD , exercising gave me pain & such a sore head too ,,,, then I got angiogram ,,,,/ angioplasty 2 stents fitted ,,,,

There are two types of angina. Stable, where you need to exercise to get symptoms and Unstable where you get symptoms at rest.If you’re having chest pains at rest and you don’t know the cause you need to speak to your doctor ASAP.

It could be a strain or something less sinister but you have to make sure.

Best of luck 👍

I would see your GP. I had chest pains for nearly 2 years and was told it was muscular because I was fit but it wasn’t

All good advice here.

As others have said it is definitely worth getting it checked out as soon as you can, as you can never be too careful when it comes to chest pain.

I am definitely not a medical person, just a recovering heart patient, but one piece of advice my cardio rehab team has given me that might help you in the short term is that if when you touch the area where the pain is coming from, and it is sore/hurts to the touch, then it is likely to be musculoskeleteal pain and not heart-related pain. If however it doesn't hurt to the touch, and you can still feel the pain, then call 111 - they will give you the best possible advice.

Take care and good luck
