Tricky question but has any ones Heart/Body overcome the effect of Bisoprolol ?

I take 7.5mg and my Heart rate was around the high 40s low 50s it has now started to climb to around the 70s nothing else has changed I still take Entresto and the other routine meds. Just wondering if anyone has had the same and did cardiologist switch to a different Medication ??

ps I cope very well with the 7,5mg on10mg Heart was pausing and HR was low 30s hence reduced to 7.5 mg

Excellent question and one with which I have wondered myself, does one become tolerant to Bisoprolol? I don't have an answer but only to say, my HR is noticeably higher on average than it was when I first started taking it over a year ago.

I hazard a guess that the body will become tolerant to any drug over time, but to what extent it does I don't know, citing pain killers and anxiolytic drugs the body does become more tolerant, and needs higher doses for the same effect, hence the propensity for abuse I guess?

I hope someone can answer you.

PS I had an identical experience, 10>7.5 due to HR being in mid 30's. Climbed to mid 40-50, now mid 50-60.

Yes I have wondered the same!

I have been on it for coming up to 3 years, went from 1.25mg > 10mg > 5mg > 3.75 > 5mg

Resting HR during this time has dropped from 55bpm to 51bpm, probably in the main due to my increased fitness levels.

Interestingly, when i changed from 10mg (5mg twice a day) to 5mg once a day, my resting HR climbed back up to 56(ish), then over 3/4 months returned to 51(ish).

Then when I dropped briefly (6weeks(ish)) to 3.75mg my resting HR went up to 53, then when I went back to 5mg resting HR went back to 51.

So it seems in my case, so far at least, that the effect isn't changing.

Hi Prada47,

Interesting question which i have pondered whilst everything going on since my Heart Attack 08-2019?

I was on 10mg for some time and was reduced to 7.5mg and then 5mg which i am still on despite all the side effects i was getting along side 150mg Losartan, i finally got them to reduce the Losartan to 100mg, although i am still have reactions to both even now, i could not say which of them causes the most.

But my gut feeling is the Losartan and not so much Bisoprolol, i have not been the same person since the 150 mg Losartan increase.

I am sorry i cannot give you a definite answer, however @Thecyclist has given me food for thought on the tolerance side of it?

Steve.

Hi,

I did take Bisoprolol 5mg and I can’t really tolerate the side effects. I became really tired so I usually take my bisoprolol during the late afternoon. I get postural hypotension often even after trying my best to move slowly. My BP drops to systolic 70-80mmHg. Heart rate wise it went down to Low 50s. Helped suppress my PVCs but the side effects are too much for me. I’d suggest to check your heart rate and blood pressure at least once a day and notify your doc about how the Med is affecting you. There’s definitely alternatives. Hope this helps.

I was on 10mg and it had no effect on my heart rate, I was on it for a couple of years but was switched to another drug because of the lack of effect. I think your body will become slightly tolerant to any drug if you are on it long enough. Hubby is on blood pressure tablets and has been for years, his blood pressure is ok but not brilliant and I do wonder if that is because his body is getting used to the level of medication he is on.

High Pravda 47. I have been on Bisoprolol since Oct 20 and have had many issues. I started on 5 mg with quite low readings as yours and due to side effects had to reduce down to 2.5. This also caused problems and consultant said to try 1.25 and if still issues stop altogether. Which I had to Since early December GP said to start on 1/2 a 1.25 tablet a day and then one a day then 1 1/2 I am now on 2.5 milligrams a day and coping ok .

With heart rate he seems to be ok @ 48 to 75 providing I feel ok. The consultant at any time as never offered an alternative. I have A Fib and he has explained to me why I may need a pace maker and that is because the Bisoprolol can control the A Fib but make the HR to low. Hope that is helpful

Good morning Prada47. I am in persistent AF and am being managed with rate control drugs. Bisoprolol controlled my heart rate but the side effect of breathlessness became a problem. I have been prescribed Nebivolol instead of Bisoprolol and this is much better tolerated. This doesn't really answer your question other than perhaps changing the medication. Best wishes. Stay safe.
