Health monitoring wristbands that send out alarms?

Do these exist?

The ONLY thing that I know if that exists is the Apple Watch.

It seems a little silly - there are loads of other watches on the market that monitor the pulse on the wrist. The giving out of the alarm is only software based.

+ The cost of this should ONLY be the cost of the wristband (no need to sign up to some sort of subscription for example).

I would love to have for my mum and some other elderly people whom I know.

The Garmin Venu Square £199 from Argos, Amazon etc. will send an alarm to up to three people if an incident occurs. It will notify them of GPS coordinates. This is a free service that comes with the watch.

Hi matrixstar. My son bought me an Apple series 6. I thought thank you fir caring so much but what am I going to do with this. Well I can honestly say that it gave me such confidence . I banged my arm and it registered and asked me to confirm I was ok. It will contact my family if I fall and I can press a button and call an ambulance at the same time it calls my family and pinpoints where I am.Ecg,s. Heart rate. Activity monitoring .. tells me I need to have a little walk. So much more. it’s amazing. Of course you have the phone facility , fav photos , the list goes on. I’m not great with tec but this is a piece of cake

I’m thrilled with mine.

Like you the new Apple Watch has so much more to offer, I have used them since series 3 and would never change, can be costly but worth every penny 👍

Do any of u find that sometimes the readings seem off like u get the streaming of heart rate plus the background monitoring of heart rate and the ECG background monitoring does anyone find that ur heart rate changes rapidly from low to high rapidly like when I’m driving the streaming and f my heart rate is in normal range but when I check the ecg background later will tell me heart dropped to 40 but I’ll then check the time and at same timeThe streaming heart rate was normal

Hi Char. I’ve read that it’s not always accurate. I’ve noticed some very frilly ECG results and repeated them and they’ve changed. ( that could be normal- what do I know) but if you were very sensitive you might get alarmed. I havnt noticed heart rate increase/ decrease . I’ll make a note to check. But I have to say I’m very happy with mine. I like the emergency button it’s like a talisman for me haha

Mine has been pretty accurate when tested against my omron evolv BP machine bpm wise, but the ecg is very sensitive to slight movements and I rarely use the function, I agree with @Fynndog in regards to the emergency function.

Does one REALLY have to spend £500 on an apple watch? + assuming the watch is fairly useless without an expensive apple watch?

The heart monitoring capacity is very limited.

It's all software based - just need to tell a program to send emails it a measure is too high or too low. A £10 device has the capacity to suffice.

Nothing like this exists at all?

Only open for the rich who can fork out £1200+ on an apple watch and phone?

Apologies, I come from a coding background. For me it's so clear and obvious to see and understand. To others the apple service may appear as a god send unique invention. It isn't at all.

I feel like making something myself! But that would take 6-12 months work at least. I'd rather buying something off the shelf.

Garmin or any of the other companies could code a solution in a few days/weeks literally 🙂

My mum has late stage dementia. She's had a heart attack in the past. She doesn't even have the cognitive capacity to use a watch right now. So very worried about her.

Besides leaving an iPhone and apple watch with patients isn't really a good idea given the value of the items.

Can you use any of these watches when you have a pacemaker? I understood you couldn’t, but would love a second opinion.
