Hi, I am new here, joined the site 2 weeks ago after having being diagnosed with Angina. I must admit it was quite scary and have found this site great. Reading all your experiences and advice has been fantastic.

Hello dfkl
Welcome to the forum, as you said when you read the posts you will see there are lots of members with different heart issues, but we all try to help each other through the difficult days.
Being told we have a problem with our hearts is so very scary, but here you will learn that the very clever medical teams we have, we can be mended.
Remember you are now part of the Hearties family, and if you have any questions or just want a shoulder to lean on, someone will be along to help.
Best wishes Pauline
Thank you Pauline
I am reasonably fit, used to cycle at least 10 miles a day, with longer distances on the weekends, and if I can’t get out use the Turbo trainer at home so it came as quite a surprise when I started getting chest pains and being short of breath when out walking, and noticed that I could not achieve the same timings cycling anymore and after a visit to the GP I was referred to Cardiology at my local hospital where I was diagnosed with Angina. The Medical Staff were and are absolutely fantastic, even have a Helpline I can call to talk to them. I feel so tired all the time, no energy but still try to get my daily exercise.
The chest pains now even happen when just sitting down, so have been given Trangina XL as well to take and have been told that I am being moved up on the waiting list and the stent will be fitted before Christmas. Received my appointment for pre-op for 16 December, so things are moving along really quickly and I feel extremely lucky.
I had a heart attack last Boxing Day I was copying till Covid when my anxiety kicked in and my anxiety it focuses on my health so I have got myself into such a state , doctor did blood test it just showed up high BP and my thyroid is under active so medication increased for both .I just can’t get my self to go out a walk get fresh air I just sit in the house I know it’s so bad for me.last week I joined the weigh loss sight and had a few good food wise days but I just don’t seem to have the willpower or determination I just sit here am sorry to be such a depressing person but honestly I am not that kind of person and I hate it 🥺🥺
Just saw ur post and wanted to reach out. It may be a good idea to discuss ur meds with your gp. If your moods or personality have changed a lot it’s possibly a side effect (depending what ur on). Don’t keep suffering. Discuss with your cardiac team maybe.
I have been on many different meds and found that some really affected my mental health. Took a while to realise as they start u on a low dose and increase etc and I put a lot of it down to stress of having a new heart condition and the Covid situation etc but for me it wasn’t. I’ve always been able to pull myself up when I’ve been really down but I went through a phase that I really didn’t care.
I’m now better mentally having changed medication. I’m fortunate that I have an understanding gp who knew I hate take any meds anyway so listened and worked with me to sort it. I can’t say the meds are perfect as still need adjustments but finally I feel the glum fog has cleared and I can motivate myself again.
U hope u feel brighter soon.
Talk to your meds team. Mine are wonderful. Try the BHF site for simple exercise programmes you can do indoors. If you can get outside, even for a short stroll, it will help, physically and mentally. Medication can be a problem. It solves one thing and creates another. I have just been moved from ramipril, and feel so much better.
Welcome to the site, i’m relatively new on here too following cardiac events which took me by surprise earlier this year. Was fit and healthy one minute and bang major heart problems. You will find some great help and support on here, you get to talk to people who understand what your going through and support you through it. Keep in touch and wish you well
Update today - have now received my daycase appointment - 22 December is the big day.
Throw in your queries, little or large. You will get help and support, and the knowledge that you are far from being alone.
Hi dfkl, glad to see that you will soon be getting your stent done. I was the same as you! fit and healthy as I thought, went for an angiogram and surprised to receive two stents there and then. Kept in hospital overnight and released at 3pm next day. There is little or no pain, you can watch the procedure being done through your wrist into your heart . I recieved Plavix 75mg to take for one year and Aspirin 75mg medication to take for the future. Job done. Take things easy for about a month with no heavy lifting. Your GP will be able to to keep an eye on you if necessary, so good health for the future
So, are you all done and back home recuperating?I went through this in April - walking 3 miles a day, up hill and down at the start; couldn’t walk to the kitchen without a rest by the end of April. Stents fitted end of April, and I’ve just completed Couch to 5k, running three times a week. And I’m 70, so a spring chicken like you...
So expect to get fit again! Slow and steady, building up gradually. The BHF cardiac rehab videos helped me enormously, and the NHS support was great.
