Enlarged left atrium

Hi everyone,

I’ve just been told I have a moderately enlarged left atrium. My valves and heart muscles are fine. Has anyone ever had experience with this before? It has me in a bit of a panic!

Morning just read your post I was diagnosed with an enlarged chamber in March this year and had an ablation and ICD Fitted in July, I've been told it has gone from severely impaired to Slightly impaired the worst part has been adjusting my medication and they have made some alterations to my ICD which has helped, I enjoy cycling which helps with my mental health and that has been affected but I'm managing to ride 2 hours plus now it's been a tough time but I have a great partner and a fantastic team at spire Nottingham looking after me I hope this helps you and good luck

Hi thank you for your response ! Can I ask a firther question? Was the ablation done specifically to address the atrium enlargement? And what is an ICD? I’m new to all this!!

Hi there, no the Ablation was to correct irregular heartbeat and the ICD is a defriballator as a backup incase of any arrhythmia in the future from what I've been told the enlarged chamber contributed to the Arrhythmia it started after a blackout back in August 2019 and I've had upper and lower ablations in that time aswell as changes of my medications but I'm starting to feel the benefit of it all now,my consultant is pretty confident that my defriballator will not ever go off but to be honest glad I have it I hope this explains about it more for you and I'm sure over time you will be getting the treatment you need.

That makes sense. Thank you for explaining. I’m glad you’re doing well and back to cycling.

Thank you!!!

Hi! My mother had this when she was a nurse and had 3 kids and supporting my dad in school. It was from stress and she made it she’s now 77 and has a healthy heart and exercises everyday. Her heart rate at this time was high as well 120 at all times except when resting.. I don’t know if you watch the news but it’s all negative I call it the negative news or lately it’s just the Corona news. What we listen to watch goes into our hearts 💕 and eventually comes out of our mouths. Guard your heart fromfearful thoughts. I’m sorry you are going through this, I hope you get better soon.

Thank you for responding to this and also so quickly last night when I asked how you were doing on my other post! I am so stressed it’s hard to think straight. Obviously worrying about Covid and the world, elderly parents I can’t see as often as aid like, husband with stage 4 cancer and the effects of propranolol withdrawal. Your posts give me hope it will pass.

How awful!! I’m so sorry you are going through this. I’ve been through very stressful situations as well and things didn’t get worse they got better and I grew stronger and a better person not bitter better. If you need someone to talk to feel free to reach out to me any time! I live in the states too. Don’t worry about tomorrow that doesn’t help just focus on today do something that shows progress for yourself. I put my headphones and would listen to praise music or something encouraging first thing in the morning and I started walking around my house slowly from one lap to now 15 laps. I also bought myself some early Christmas presents, lol like new Beats headphones. Be careful who you talk to find people who will encourage you 💕🌸much love and peace 🌸
