I was looking at a link provided by the Cardiac Nurse to Q & A.
I read about stem cells that may help to repair a Heart damaged by a Heart Attack very interesting . I also read about Morphine Sulfate Slow Release tablets now my question has anyone been put on this medication ?? and did it help with breathlessness. Maybe it is still in the development stage in tablet form !!
I have a friend who has just been diagnosed with Mesothelioma and has problems with his lung filling with fluid (which needs draining in a Hospital setting ) he has been prescribed Morphine Sulfate in liquid form to help his breathing when showering. I have Heart Failure and it is when showering that I have a real shortness of Breath just wondered if anyone uses this ?
Thanks

I have been prescribed modified release morphine . I take one tablet twice a day as I go into hospital if my vasospastic angina becomes unstable. It helps with the pain and breathlessness I experience.
This type of morphine is usually used to treat people with cancer and other conditions at the end of life.
In hospital I am given oromorph a liquid easily absorbed morphine then IV morphine. I then stay on the slow release tablets for a week after I have been discharged home.
You can become addicted to morphine so it's long term use is not usually recommended.
However it has it's place for those with cancer and severe heart failure.
The side effects are no fun, nausea, fuzzy head and constipation.
There has been some research however the results are mixed.
