This is something new to me so don't know where its coming from. It was just a sudden spasm that made a leg or arm move without any request from my brain. Now it can be my whole body usually at night. No discomfort or ill effects and last a fraction of a second. Any ideas?

They are called a Hypnic Jerk and are quite common.

I get them now and again. The full body ones normally as I am dropping off to sleep, the involuntary leg or arm movements can happen at any time. I have had them for years and they have never really bothered me. They get worse with lack of sleep and I think some medications may cause them also. Alcohol and caffeine and other stimulants may also cause them to be more common.
Hope that helps!
Hi I had that, I actually punched myself in the face my legs were jumping up when I was asleep and I had no idea what was happening it turned out to be low magnesium,it showed up in my blood tests, took me by surprise I hadn't really thought about something like that, I got sachets from my consultant and the spasms completely disappeared, there might be other things that can cause it mabe worth mentioning to your Dr for a diagnosis, char
Me too, I didn't even mention it to the consultant in case she thought I was dreaming or worse 🤣and when she said about the magnesium I looked it up and low and behold spasms is a symptom! I hope you get to the bottom of what is causing them char
