Medication

A month ago I had a telephone call from the Heart Failure Nurse who said I needed different medication as I was on the wrong type for last 18months and my heart failure is worse. I received a copy of a letter to my doctor with this information and the names of the two new tablets, one of which the doctor was to prescribe & the heart failure nurse the other.

The online medication list was not updated and finally, after many attempts to call, I got through to the surgery's medical receptionist who said she couldn't help as she had been lock out of the MediDocs system for over a week. Eventually a doctor got back to me and I picked up the Eplerenone, 25mg. I wasn't surprised to see that yet again I was on a tablet which had a 1 in 10 side effect of irregular heartbeat & heart failure, the same as my betablocker.

I still haven't had the other tablet from the heart failure nurse and left another message today as I was told I had to take as soon as possible. So after a month, they still haven't got around to sending me the medication by courier as I was told 28 days ago because it now appears the first nurse was not authorised to prescribe it and that her colleague had to do it. So called again today and left a message.

The borough I am in has the lowest rate of Covid-19 in London.

The common side effects of the Eplerenone runs into 21 possible 1 in 10 so will be looking out for more lockdown fun.

Just called the Heart Failure Clinic to be told I have an appointment booked at the hospital the first week of December, though first I have heard of it, to discuss the new medication. I was told back in the first week of October that I needed it urgently, so urgently she was going to bike it to me.

I cannot believe that the two of them couldn't sort it out between them especially as my heart failure is worse than when I was first diagnosed, 20 months ago.

If we had to cease taking medication that may cause irregular heartbeats then we would not have any to take.

Wish you well.

Ejection fraction was 37% with no symptoms. Now 31% with an ICD/pacemaker fitted a year ago after a VT which took place 6 weeks after a ‚just in case‘ stent. Now breathless & regular swelling of ankles.
