I might put on my prothesis and go for a short walk around the room. But then I might leave it to later so I have something to look forward to!

I briefly saw the outside of my door earlier. There's a notice that says "Authorised Personnel Only. Full PPE must be worn at all times". Does that make me a bio-hazard? *!

Think I need to get out more! 🤣🤣🤣

Had another swab! Gagged but didn't throw up! Well that's about 90 seconds out of 1, 209, 600 gone!

Just walked down to Homebase and got some ceiling paint. Government still not fully explained what will be allowed to stay open, as far as I can see DIY stores not yet been mentioned. If they are to close, I might go and get some white for the door frames as a standby in the event of serious boredom.

Got several books to read and a few jigsaws

I think everything will be closed except for basic necessities the queues were so bad today and lots of stores had discounts

I'm in NE Scotland where this morning we went into a levels system that roughly corresponds to the English tiers system. I had a bit of a worry we'd be put into the highest level owing to our proximity to an area with a rising rate of cases but we're in L2 rather than the L3 we worried we'd be in. I did do a top-up Friday, supermarket and DIY, just in case things change and we go into a higher level or even a full-on lockdown more in line with what England is possibly going to go into Thursday. At this point, listening to what is being said about MPs opposing the English lockdown, I'm not sure it really is going to happen.

That said, I feel for the English and well understand why so many are trying to get hair and other appointments, and stocking their store cupboards, DIY supplies, and other items meant to ease the lockdown.

I got caught out in March when everything shut down - DIY stores could open by decided to close for quite some time - so I've stocked up now. The local Homebase is part of a Sainsbury's/Argos/Homebase site and I was expecting it to be busy this morning - not so, Homebase almost empty, Sainsbury's looked quiet as did Argos and the car park about 1/3 full. So at the moment no panic buying here, but being as Merseyside has been in some sort of special measures since 22nd September, and tier 3 since 14th October the situation has been getting steadily ramped up here for a while, so maybe there's less of a reaction to a new lockdown!

Hmm, so its you doing the stock piling, i knew you couldn't be trusted after the loo roll & sanitisor went missing after the bbq!! 🤔

We have panic buying here, started on Friday and hasn't stopped! Back to queuing at the supermarket, the 'you can do it' DIY store, even the small local stores! No loo roll again (wished I'd bought those shares in Andrex back in March!) and the shelves are completely wiped clean of baby foods, formula's etc! I only live in a small town, how many babies can there be 🤷‍♂️ 🤦‍♀️

SpiritoftheFloyd profile image
SpiritoftheFloyd in reply toLezzers

Yep - hands up it's me!😊

Strange but there doesn't seem to be any panic buying here. Back in March the Sainsbury's carpark and store were totally packed out for a week or two, then went quiet - this lockdown doesn't seem to have had any impact so far.

Tbf, I think the fact we live in a small town, the next small town being 12 miles away (nothing between them except fields!) and bigger towns being 20+miles away with limited public transport I do understand it to some extent. But again no shopping slots available 🤦‍♀️ I've e mailed a certain supermarket this morning to ask how they're going to handle the situation this time!

SpiritoftheFloyd profile image
SpiritoftheFloyd in reply toLezzers

Lots of choice where I live, large retail park 5 miles away, plus within 5 mile radius, 1 Tesco, 2 Sainsbury's, 2 Morrisons, 2 Asda and loads of smaller Tesco, Co-Op etc. Still quite surprised how few people were down there today. Still no slots available with you? That's not good .

Lezzers profile image
Lezzers in reply toSpiritoftheFloyd

Tbh, I was made aware of the panic buying on Friday and immediately booked a delivery slot & got one for 8th November. When the lockdown announcement was made I thought I'd best get some more booked, all home delivery slots were completely booked but did get a click & collect for 15 Nov, so slightly better than last time. There are some click & collect slots still available but I don't drive and kevins not always well enough to leave the house so means relying on friends & family. I'll see what reply I'll get to e mail!!

Lezzers profile image
Lezzers in reply toSpiritoftheFloyd

I thought I'd give an update on the e mail to a certain supermarket about how they're handling lockdown this time! I was given a number to ring to be added to the priority shopping slot list.

I rang the number & got us added to the list but was told they can't guarantee we'd get any slots as it works in the same way as the non priority shopping slots, we may still find there's no slots available! Not sure what's the point of the list then?

And, they're still queuing around here! 🤦‍♀️

SpiritoftheFloyd profile image
SpiritoftheFloyd in reply toLezzers

Oh ! Is that company the one that starts with a "S"? If it is I'm with them. Been using their online shopping for close on 20 years with a delivery pass, and I just couldn't see any slots in March so fired off email to their then CEO explaining my health conditions and was promptly given access to priority slots. My friend who lives up the road also has a delivery pass, but no health issues - but he can't see slots whereas I can - so there is some segregation between priority and non-priority groups. I can only see slots for 2 weeks and currently have one for this Saturday and one for the following Saturday, he can't see any, but even today I can see slots for the whole of next week, so he has to go down the shops. TBH - don't think the call centre staff are that on the ball. If you don't get any joy an email to the CEO works wonders 😊

Lezzers profile image
Lezzers in reply toSpiritoftheFloyd

Its the supermarket that begins with a 'T'. They did say I wouldn't be able to view slots till tomorrow so will update again then ☺

It does make me think that they don't allocate that many slots for less populated areas and that's why they're scarcer here? I'll find out tomorrow!

SpiritoftheFloyd profile image
SpiritoftheFloyd in reply toLezzers

I'm set up with them - just checked and not a thing! Don't know about less populated areas, I've got friends that lives in Denbigh in North Wales - that's pretty rurally populated but they say they've not have any problems with "T" making deliveries. See what happens tomorrow.

I think most people trying to buy gifts for Christmas and toys for kids because that’s where I have seen the most queues

Sunnie2day profile image
Sunnie2day in reply toSpiritoftheFloyd

I usually keep the store cupboard and freezers loaded with at least a month supply (with weekly top-ups at the local supermarket I use for fresh produce) so my top-up Friday was for things I went short of during the last full-on lockdown. Lesson taken, I kept a list of those things.

Things change so quickly day-to-day I don't blame anyone wanting to be sure they have things to help get through any potential lockdown. When I was in the big supermarket (about 20 miles away, the little local one is just that - little!) Friday, it was 'payday' so I'm not sure if the store being jam-packed was owing to 'stocking up' or simple payday shopping. The DIY centre was also full, so full there was a queue to go in and monitors on the doors making sure people used sanitiser and waited for the green light to enter - it looked as though it was one out-one in.

SpiritoftheFloyd profile image
SpiritoftheFloyd in reply toSunnie2day

That's what I was expecting to see this morning. I'm beginning to wonder if it's a case of people not having the money to go out panic buying, This area is heavily dependant on the hospitality sector so a lot of people will still be furloughed from March, even if they've been getting 80% of income during that time it's still a sizeable shortfall, especially when it goes on this long.

Just been to Cardio to get yet another monitor fitted so thought I would make a detour to M&S afterwards, Hmmm traffic was horrendous so abandoned that and headed off to Pets at Home for supplies, Hmmm gridlock traffic so I gave up as my route back wasn't even moving. It seems everyone is going into panic mode and shopping til they drop 🤦🏻‍♀️

We went to Waitrose this morning No Eggs or Loo Rolls, what do people do with all these loo rolls !!! Just been to Tesco for Cat Food the Fish 11+ variety and the shelf is empty. Looks like if things get bad we will have to eat the Cat ( not really ). I did see a Q at the Barbers will try again tomorrow !!

Lezzers I did get the Snow bottles of Gin at M & S and a bottle of the ORO Prosecco. I didn't realise there is a light for when you shake it up and the Gold Snow then Glows see why you played with in Mark's LOL

Addition to my list - just booked a haircut Wednesday afternoon - the lady who owns the place I go has been doing home visits since the original lockdown for anyone who doesn't feel comfortable sitting with a crowd, and has been visiting my house since this started - so just bagged a visit.

On the first lockdown I bought my own hair clippers and cut my own hair. Now I'm quite the expert and have saved a bit of money too. Be careful though ,you don't save as much if you cut it on pensioners day. 🤣.I'm also going to panic buy a few bottles of Scotch while it's on offer at Morrisons. Keep your chin up.

Sunnie2day profile image
Sunnie2day in reply toGrayjay

I confess to stocking in a few nice bottles of Merlot (Morrisons, good selection but no offer, maybe I should switch to whisky?) last week. My husband is teetotal but I like a small glass of wine on occasion).

And I too have now become a decent home 'hair expert', Wahl clipper set keeps my husband's hair presentable (but oh my the learning curve!). I've even taken to cutting my own hair as well now - I console myself by saying I've paid good money for far worse:)

There's nothing wrong with a little drop of your favourite tipple as long as it's in moderation. Since my first post though I've been contacted by my GP to make an appointment for my annual Diabetic check so I'll abstain until after that which is on Friday.Regarding haircuts, it really doesn't matter what it looks like considering we're not going out anywhere.😅

Take care.

Read your post Sunnie with a smile I to invested in hair clippers and found a video on YouTube and started cutting John’s hair! Even if I say so myself I am not half bad😂 he’s impressed so that’s good. Goodness knows when we will get him back to the barbers. Had my flu jag a couple of weeks ago, but he hasn’t had his appointment, came last Friday it’s for this coming Sunday! Thought the commuter had made a mistake with the date but seems not after a telephone conversation they are using the health centre at a weekend to get them done! Mine was a a local hall but in the week.

Hope you and yours are all safe and well.

My husband had to wear a hat after my first 2-3 goes at home barbering but those videos do help, he no longer needs a hat, lol! Do you cut your hair?

All mine are fine although they're a bit nervous about today and the next week or so waiting for election results to be announced. Everyone had already resigned themselves to this being another Skype Christmas so we're tucked up for winter now here and there:)

Hope the same happy for you and yours!

Yes had a go with 2 mirrors, it wasn’t too much of a disaster, my hair is short so after that first month just couldn’t stand it!

Had a long FaceTime with my brother on Saturday, he like your family is waiting to see what happens this week, it was 25 years since our mother had passed away so we had a lovely time remembering her.

Posted Christmas parcels this morning to Australia, just in case we go into lockdown, being in the Central Belt we are nearly there! Like you it will be a FaceTime Christmas. But just have to get on with it.

Take good care of yourself Pauline
