Chest pain that moves around

Hi, for the past 3 years I've had these episodes of pretty severe pain in my chest, however it moves around to my back, right side, right gums, shoulder, abdomen, throat. Never left side, only right so far. It can get very painful. I've had a couple of ECGs, BP, bloods and so far all normal. I'm in good health, I'm 46 but I am a bit of a stress head and can get anxious and don't sleep that well. I think I have a form of PTSD. However the attacks come very randomly when i actually feel fairly relaxed for me. The attacks come every 6 to 8 weeks I would say and can last from an hour to five hours. The doctors are very unsure. I was actually given Omeprazole for gastric problems for it by one GP. The other day I saw another GP after an attack and he did the usual ECG, BP. They were normal, however he has given me GTN spray and now I'm really worried despite him saying I should be reassured by the good test results. Essentially if this spray works, I have angina.

Have a GP check you for chostocondritis. They can tell by applying pressure between your ribs. A painful response may indicate inflammation. Treatment could be physio or steroids to reduce inflammation. Just a thought. Thinking outside the box.

Hope you feel better.

Thanks for the advice. I have been reading about that and did wonder. I will mention it next time.

Hi Calmac, hope you are feeling OK. It is really good that your ECG and tests are coming up fairly clear, it should mean most of your plumbing is in good working order, and try to be reassured by this.

Omeprazole should at least eliminate any gastric cause of your pain so keep taking it.

Not sure if you have had heart surgery and this is a Post Op issue, or a concern that you think something might be wrong. In either case keep seeking answers from your med team.

Hi there, I'm feeling fine thanks. I'm in good health generally aside from those episodes of pain. I have never had surgery. They are still figuring out what's causing this I think. I don't take Omeprazole. I stopped it after a while as i didn't believe that was the issue. I accept that may have been wrong. Thanks for the reply and support. Will see what happens next.

If you can rule out gastric causes of the pain by taking the Omeprazole, stop taking it. Long-term its not good stuff.

I get heartburn which is usually treatable using Gaviscon. If that doesn't work I take one omeprazole and sometimes another the next day and I'm usually fine for quite a while then.

It works for me anyway.......
