New here. Severe mitral annular calcification (MAC)

Hi I am new here. This is my second post. Echostress report states I have moderate to severe mitral annular calcification. Also mitral stenosis which is due to the annular calcification.

Has anyone on this site been treated for this heart problem be it medication or surgery? Just want to educate myself prior to seeing private cardiologist to discuss my recent echostress report.

Any feedback will be really appreciated.

Thank you

Good morning! My personal opinion (please remember I am not a medical professional) is that a CT scan needs to be done to get a clearer view of the problem. Typically I would expect you to be started on a statin (if not already on one) and possibly an ACE inhibitor. I hope the appointment goes well.

Thank you for your reply Michael. I had a echocardiogram first which was ok. Then I had CT scan which revealed LAD disease. Finally had a echostress showing mitral valve problem.....moderate to severe mitral annular calcification MAC.

Just starting statins. Binned them in the past....big mistake!

On amlodipine for blood pressure but can't take beta blocker because I cannot walk at all when I take it which has me thinking in such a inactive state that I would be better off dead.

Plan to request surgery when I see cardiologist.

Once again sincere thank you

Hi DizzyD, this is my first post despite being 9 weeks post op. I went in expecting mitral valve repair and came out with a new tissue valve and annular ring. The ring was heavily calcified and quietly shredding the valve. This only came to light after op had started. All repaired however and home after 7 days. Feeling good and find no trouble with 5/6 mile walk. Had Warfarin since op. with regular clotting check but hope to be off this soon. Prior to op. I was was taking Rivaroxaban blood thinner for nearly 18 months. Hope all goes well.

Ohhh thank you so much for your reply. So there is light at the end of the tunnel....I am more than delighted to hear your surgery went so well for you. Eureka!!!!

Hope you don't mind me asking some questions as i plan to request this surgery when I go to see private cardiologist.

Prior to your surgery was your ability to walk far impacted by the stenosis? If it was how did it effect you ( symptons)?

I could walk for England up until last year now I can just about to 1/2 mile with great difficulty, if I'm lucky. Ohh to be able to walk with ease again would be such a joy.

What is your age?

Would be good to know this because I am concerned incase my age is an issue. I am 69.

Was your procedure done in the UK?

Muriwai is it ok if I ask some more questions at a later time as you are the only person who replied to my post. What a most welcome and joy provoking post it is. You really have made my day. Can't thank you enough for that. Massive hugs.

Keep on walking.

Hi Dizzy again, I had nothing unusual indicating any problem with heart prior to unrelated GP visit. I am older than you so don’t be put off by your age. Everything done by NHS.
