In hospital now - questions for consultant.

Hi

I’m new here. Referred by GP after collapse. Partial intermittent blockage left ventricle

Still investigating. Just had MRI today. Awaiting consultant today / tomorrow.

I’m in Hammersmith Hospital now

My question is - what do I ask them?

I’m a golf professional and I teach / play for a living. I’m worried about the impact of pacemaker in short and long term (which the consultant suggested may well be needed depending upon MRI results).

What sort of questions should I be asking?

Are there alternatives? I will update when I have a proper diagnosis

Interested in some insight into this very new concern for me.

Any input sincerely appreciated.

:)

Update - MRI has led them to possibility of

Sarcoidosis

Fabry disease

Now needs:

Special blood tests

PET scan

CT scan

Genetic specialist

Likely will require (but not before proper diagnosis):

Pacemaker 3 leads

Or implanted defibrillator.

Hey lightspeed,

I'm really sorry to hear what you are going through and having to process.

I dont have any knowledge of those two conditions or the proposed treatments, but I'm sure that someone who speaks pacemaker/defibrillator language will be along to help answer your question soon.

Sending my best wishes for you journey .

We merry band of Hearties welcome to the club you never hoped to join. You'll find lots of support here, tips on finding information you can rely on (TIP: avoid Dr Google, he's a snake oil salesman!), tips on recovery if you do need 'invasive interventions' (aka angioplasty, surgery, etc) and tips on getting through the rough patches.

I'm a Lady Heartie (and a Lady PetrolHead so I tend to not be as active during F1 season) with multiple heart conditions all currently well managed with nothing more than a low-dose beta blocker, aspirin, and lifestyle. I don't think I'd be doing as well as I am without this lovely group of Hearties. I had a bit of a heart wobble last year (March 2019) and these wonderful people got me through the seemingly endless waits for tests and so much more.

While you're waiting for more tests-diagnosis-treatment, have a look at this BHF page about pacemakers. Once you're done looking at that page, use the drop down menu to find more interesting reading specific to your possible heart conditions and treatments:

bhf.org.uk/informationsuppo...

Again, welcome, and please do not hesitate to ask questions, and please do keep us updated as you go on.

To each his/her own, dear Fergus, to each their own:) I've been following F1 since the mid-1960s, seen 'em come and go. Being Scottish, of course I'll argue the great Sir Jackie Stewart trumps Hunt but then that's 'my own' - ymmv!
