Urgent admission 2 month's ago with irregular pulse--missing beats and heart rate above 150. Diagnosed and treated for pneumonia with antibiotics but told AF had resolved. 3 weeks later still feeling ill saw Gp and given beta-blockers and referred to Cardiologist. No improvement and I've taken myself to A&E twice--had 48hour monitor--will get results at clinic. Last time in A&E got the impression that they thought I was a old neurotic women (I'm 72 and was fit and well). Now reluctant to phone GP or go to walk in centre. GP said if I go spark out I can phone 999!
Has anyone else been diagnosed with AF after an infection. NB I tested negative for Covid19
Hi, sorry to hear about that. Yes infections can cause AF, I find if I get too hot or a fever I go into AF, sometimes it goes within a day, sometimes weeks. People do live with constant AF so its not a huge worry but must be monitored by your GP/Hospital. AF 'can' be a precursor to other things so I would monitor it and ring 111 or straight to A&E if you are feeling unwell. I wouldnt worry about wasting their time, better that than the other... HTH
I’m having the same symptoms as you but fortunately haven’t had antibiotics or severe illness. In the last few months I’ve had to dial 999 four times and been taken to hospital where I’ve just been left till the rapid heartbeat subsided of its own accord. I’m on Bisoprolol and have not been referred to a cardiologist although repeatedly requesting my GP to do this. I like you I just get told to ring 999. As I am79 and live alone I am living in constant fear of the next attack as they come on out of the blue. I’m very anxious and feel quite depressed about not getting answers. Hope you are fully recovered from your pneumonia
Hi , yes I also had AF due to pneumonia in January, just a few days before I was due to go on a Place in the Sun!! It was treated wth antibiotics and the AF was treated with digoxin. I have haven’t had it since 🤞🏻
