Propranolol

I was put on proprananol 40mg twice a day. The first night, slight insomnia and woke up panic breathing which I have never done before. I read the symptoms leaflet and google which said this can be short lived. A couple of weeks went and I started to feel very fatigued.

By week 5, I was a mess. Twitching, black out, no diet, stomach cramps, severe depression and anxiety. All of these I have never experienced before. I yet again googled the drug and found these all to be side affects so I called my gp who told me to stop taking it immediately. Things got even worse. Your body ends up craving it. I called NHS 24 and they said give it 5 days. Things have gotten better, but I still have moments of anxiety and depression. Heart rate is going from 70bpm up to 110 and 154bpm. It’s awful. I just want to get back to where I was before I took this drug. Wish I never went on it.

It has been so good to read other posts that said they struggled for weeks and even months after coming off, especially cold turkey. It has just been over 1 week for me.

I’m reluctant to go back to the doctors for help, as they gp didn’t have a clue you can’t just stop a beta blocker, so I have lost faith that they can now treat the side effects of my bad reaction.

how are you feeling now? I developed depression and I am slowly tapering off it but struggling at the moment.

This is a terrible drug, why on earth do doctors recommend it, the side effects are worse than what the person is going through. It was suggested to me to have Propranolol as I have Graves Disease, 2 previous doctors said I do not need it, the last doctor said I should take it, but I am listening to my own body, there is no way I would take this drug. Hope you are feeling better.
