hello everyone

Apologies if this has been asked before but does anyone have any experience of taking coenzyme q10 ??

Is it of use/benefit. I am approaching 4 months post planned stent. Fortunately scheduled and was active leading up to procedure including gym pre covid and jogging. Probably not getting over it as quickly as I had expected but think my expectations were overly high..

Am 47 and on usual post stent meds clopidogrel, bisoprolol and atorvastatin.

Have changed diet a few years earlier and just looking to give myself any further help if I can.

Thanks

Hi I had my stent 6 weeks after a heart attach it has taken this long to get used to different drugs I now take. Like you I was running 2 miles every other day now trying to get back to normal it’s time just lots of time just don’t try and rush everything just be patient. Good luck

Thanks that does make sense. In my head as I was fortunate not to have had a HA I think I have assumed incorrectly i can pick up where I left of after a few months.

Clearly as a procedure its more invasive than I credit and needs time.

Hi MS73, I was 52 when I first experienced angina in 2011. Stent fitted within 6 weeks. The procedure does take it out of you and small steps seem to be the way to proceed.

Like you I was lucky that I did not have a HA and had also been quite fit. After the stent I seemed more sensitive to the bisoprolol so the level was adjusted slightly for two months. If you’re feeling tired and sleepy all the time discuss it with your GP and this might be an option.

A while later my statin was changed to atorvastatin. I felt awful almost immediately, kind of like mild flu with vague muscle pains, stiff joints etc. Thankfully my GP was happy to switch my statin back to rosuvastatin and things have been fine since.

Hi,

This web site gives a comprehensive overview of CoQ10

<medshadow.org/pros-cons-of-...

including possible drug interactions :

“If you’re taking a blood thinner, such as warfarin or aspirin, do not use CoQ10 without consulting your healthcare provider. “CoQ10 can reduce the efficacy of a blood thinner,” explains Splaver. “Therefore, it is important to always inform your physician before you begin any vitamin supplementation and monitor your blood thinner levels a little more often when initiating such therapy.”

I need to take clopidogrel until end October (one year after stent placement) and have decided to wait to take CoQ10 until then. Don’t want to take the chance of blood clots around the stents.

If you’re looking for a supplement what’s the goal you’re looking to achieve? I can think of a few products with decent evidence for their use, better than Coq10 IMO.
