Hi, i was on 10mg, 5mg twice a day, this was halved end of April this year to 5mg once a day.

i was moved from 1.25mg of Bisoprolol to 10mg, once a day.

No hope of reduction at this time - my condition is not apparently good!

I was on 12.5 mg of Bisoprolol for three years until a month ago when I was changed to carvedilol because I had constant violent diarrhoea all that time. It’s even worse with carvedilol so I’m waiting for an appointment later this month to get changed back. Be careful what you wish for! 😀

Hi I started off on 1.25 and as my AF has worsened over time now on 10 mgs but still have daily AF esp PSVT. Awaiting an abalation but told waiting list one year so going day to day. Would love to reduce and have spoken to my GP about a different medication but he’s waiting to hear from my cardiologist so can sympathise with the high dose age

I was recently changed from Bisoprolol to Nebivolol which I take at night. I'm no longer zombied in the morning though my b.p. is still low at 80/50 or close to that.

Hiya. I was on that dose for quite some time but it turned me into a zombie. I remember it being a real struggle just hanging the washing out. I felt dreadful and thought it was heart related but it turned out to be the meds. Gradually reduced it down and now I'm on the lowest dose and feeling much more myself. Have a chat with your gp . Reducing bisoprolol was a game changer for me.

Hi Bigbrian, I have been on 10mg Bisoprolol since leaving hospital in 2019 after my H/A, it has never been discussed or mentioned by my GP, as the hospital I attended doesn’t have an A&E dept I cannot got any advice from them, I truly believe GP,s are quite happy dishing out the same meds without question.

Be safe stay well.

I'm curious as to why you are anxious to reduce the dose. Is it because of side effects?

I have taken 10mg of Bisoprolol for nearly 15 years to control an exercise induced ventricular tachycardia, and the only ill effect I have had has been problems with cold hands and feet, and occasionally waking with my arm having gone to sleep. Initially I was on metoprolol and I noticed I dreamed more when on that, and felt I had lost my sparkle, but did not notice any significant changes after moving to 5mg of bisoprolol and soon afterwards to 10mg when it was found not to be controlling my symptoms. I have since discovered that I can "override" the bisoprolol and experience arrythmia If I really push myself during a workout, so I have to be careful.

I have mild asthma, which is a contraindicationfor bisoprolol, but have not experienced any deterioration in my asthma.

Since taking bisoprolol, a number of work colleagues have commented over the years on how calm I seem to be in stressful situations! I just tell them "It's my medication"!

Hi

Thanks for the reply, I think I just want to reduce the dose for the only reason of less medication must mean I’m getting healthier. Most people who post on here tend to be on low dose as I’ve read , just really wanting to know I’m not alone on a high dose of 10mgs, and since I posted the question I see I’m not alone, which helps.

Thanks again

No problem, I have noticed that most others are on a much lower dose than me. I do identify with your concern about medication; I am just the same, I have always considered myself to be fit and healthy, and a year after being diagnosed with heart problems I got over my fear and resumed exercise. Until covid I had been going to the gym twice a week for cardio and weights, I am currently doing home workouts regularly. If I have forgotten to take my bisoprolol, my heart rate does go a bit haywire while exercising, so I definitely need it.

To me, if I feel well, I think I *am* well. But if you think you are taking more bisoprolo than you need, maybe you could speak to your doctor about trialling a lower dose?

Hi, since lockdown I haven’t spoken to my heart nurse , so hopefully it will all be back to normal soon and I can get a chat with her to see what she thinks, I have had a CRTD pacemaker fitted and feel great, better than normal as I forgot what normal was. So basically I think I’m “cured” and I’m thinking I shouldn’t be on medication like all these poor heart people...........lol. But its obviously helping greatly too as well as the pacemaker.

Snap! - I have a pacemaker too, as in addition to the VT problem I also have an intermittent heart block. I'm on my second PM now. The heart block was discovered during tests for the VT. I was aware of the irregular rhythms caused by the VT, but had no obvious symptoms re the heart block (although it did explain why I sometimes went a bit light headed or felt faint 🙄). So as far as I was concerned, I felt well before I had the PM fitted, and I felt well afterwards, to the extent that when surrounded by other cardiac patients in hospital clinic waiting rooms, I often feel a bit of a fraud - so I can certainly identify with what you're saying!

If your medication and pacemaker have you feeling normal, rather than ill, I think that's a good sign that they are both working for you, and you can go and live your life like any other "normal", "healthy" person (if such a thing exists!)
