New Angina

Hi as some of you might have herd from me before I had a stent put in about 19 months ago now and all has being going well apart from Angina in the first few months. The cardiologist then started me on Isosorbide mononitrate but only 10 mg after 7 months . Now almost to the day 12 months later I am getting new mild angina in my chin and lower jaw when I exercise and after I eat. Is it usual that I should get more angina now . I have been following the rules pretty well. Is it just a case of asking for a higher dose of Isosorbide or should I use my GTN spray?

Kind regards

Stan

I would use your GTN spray when you get angina. Does it stop if you reduce your exercise? If I reduce the intensity of my exercise it stops.

It’s for you to decide when to use the spray.

I would mention a change like this to your GP.

Stan, you need to talk to your GP.

A stent (or indeed a bypass) is never a permanent fix for heart disease, all they can do is buy you a second chance to change your lifestyle or otherwise address the underlying cause of your atherosclerosis.

Good luck!

Talk to your gp (better still cardiologist) and get your meds reviewed.
