Unfortunately whilst under investigation or awaiting surgery, and in the immediate aftermath (about 6 - 12 weeks) insurance is generally impossible! Sorry!
I agree with Micheal and I would think your consultant would advise strongly against travel overseas. A bypass procedure is a very traumatic experience and surgery
I would say that whilst waiting for any operation it is unlikely that an insurance company will give you cover. When you can consider insurance it is best to try as many as possible as they all quote differently and do watch the small print as discounts are not always what they seem - good luck
As stated by others, it will be expensive while he's waiting for a procedure. Usually cheaper a few months afterwards. Best to see the specialist to get a clearer picture. Not for me to say but I wouldn't go anywhere for a while due to the present situation.
Hi Lisa, I’d agree with others, it may be best to delay your plans. I know how hard this can feel, you probably both want to have a break before his surgery - I had to cancel a 3wk trip to Indonesia in order to have my surgery. But tbh, it was the best thing in the end. I’d have been too tense to enjoy it, if going before surgery, and too fatigued to enjoy it, if too soon after.
Hopefully if you’ve already booked, you have insurance in place at time of booking? You need to let them know his condition soonest, and if cancelling, start paperwork (basically proving the condition was unknown when holiday booked).
So firstly, he (and you) may enjoy the trip a bit less, if the surgery is on your minds. Secondly, if the surgery date is unknown, you may end up unable to make any dates they may come up with. Thirdly, maybe worth asking Dr’s how stable his condition is. I had had my condition since birth, unknown & with no symptoms or issues till age 50, so mine was quite ‘stable’ & my surgery was ‘elective’ I.e. not urgent / essential. If your husband has blocked arteries or risk of aneurysm etc, being away from home & cardio hospital may need careful consideration.
However, if you do go, or need insurance in future, I tried these for my eventual trip.
- Boots (seemed good but wouldn’t insure me)
- Free Spirit (straightforward approach. Insured me for an absolute fortune).
