Does anyone know where I can get audio books where I don’t have to pay a subscription, just want to be able to buy them as and when I want them, but all the sites I have looked at you have to have a subscription. I want to try this as a way to relax me and help me get to sleep.

Does your local library have any audio books?
Our local library does downloadable audio books. These are "borrowed" and have to be returned. I think they may self delete otherwise.
I know our library does downloadable books. I wasn't sure if that was everywhere or just here because our library is small, though curiously it also doubles up as the registrar office!!
I have tried the library, they do do online books, I hadn’t even thought of there - lol. However I need to sign up with them which isn’t a problem as they will give you a temporary passcode and login, until I can sign in properly with them. However, it is saying I’m already registered with them , but I’m not, so still got to wait for someone to contact me. Thanks for the tip though. Think this will probably be the easiest option once I do manage to log in with them.
Can you ring your local council? Most people are working remotely & checking your account would be quite a simple thing to do.
Alternatively, can you not set up an account in the name of another member of your household?
