Hi I'm new, could someone help me please, my doctor has put me on northisterone contraceptive pill, I've been on them for 4 weeks now, I've gone from 10st 3oz to 11st 2oz, my doctor said the pill makes my body store water, she told me to drink about 10 glasses of water a day, I have been doing that for 4 days now and still putting weight on, my question is does anyone know how long it takes to start loosing excess weight, I suffer bad with my knees and it's really getting me down now x

When I experienced weight gain through hormones my GP prescribed diuretics to to be taken on an as needed basis. This was a few years ago so protocol may have changed.

I would still get back to your GP and let them know that you are still gaining.

It might be a good idea to try a different contraceptive pill.

Fluid retention can be harmful.

Thank you for replying, I had a miscarriage the day before starting the pill, she told me it would take about 8 weeks for my body to go back to normal, she told me to wait another 4 weeks and see if things change, she has referred me to be steralised but it's a waiting game.

Remember to keep your salt intake to minimal if not zero levels as salt encourages water retention.

Hope it goes well.

Yes, your body wants be at a certain level of salinity and if you eat a lot of salt your body retains water to keep the salt/water balance correct. Its not easy becuase I like salt too and there is so much hidden salt in our foods. Check the ingredients list on some of your normal foods and you may be surprised.
