Everyone says don't overdo it but what does it feel like if you do? My body says go but my cardio nurse says you can't see your heart. Surely its very individual.

I haven't had a heart attack or a valve replacement or even stents, but I have a leaking valve.
I cannot run... essentially if I call upon the heart to pump harder by trying to run, it pumps faster but leaks more and its darned uncomfortable and the feeling lasts for hours.
So, I walk and that's fine. 5 miles a day 5 times a week. but I have been feeling so great I've taken to jogging perhaps 500m once a week during a walk and so far, no uncomfortable feelings. Listen to your body. listen to your specialist. If the description of your ailment is moderate or minor (like mine) take it easy but work up to a level that doesn't give you pain.
BTW I also have a little step machine and give myself a little workout on that, I started at 100 steps and now I'm at 500. I stop there because my legs are worn out but my chest feels fine.
I monitor my heart rate, my oxygen take up. I also occasionally check my BP.
I try to eat well but would say (sadly) alcohol is a bad thing for me. My heart rate goes up to 100bpm and stays there for quite some hours.. not good if you drink at home and don't walk afterwards (like me) oh for the long walk back from the pub.. So now I don't drink
often
Hello and welcome to the forum! You don't say what heart condition you have which makes it hard to comment. When I was recovering from my quadruple bypass if I overdid it one day the next one or two days were lost as I would be really tired. Rehab staff have a lot of experience - listen to them.
I can assure you,you will know if you over do it. Listen to the nurses they are the experts and going slowly in the beginning with speed up recovery
Go, but go gently, bring your weight down if you need to by matching your energy in and your energy out, Avoid sugary drinks and try and find a flat path so you can do a daily mile, ten minutes out, ten minutes back. There are lots of very experienced hearties here, but you will need to provide a few more clues about your condition?
