Germany has 29.2 beds per 100,000

Europe average 11.5 per 100.000

UK 6.6 per 100.000

Don't ask about Wales.

Systematic Conservative decimation of the NHS through expenditure cuts and back door privatisation and ultimately sale of data to the US as a precursor to private healthcare for those that can afford it.

Is this really what the majority of the electorate voted for? Electoral power without responsibility?

If ever there was time for a reset, surely it is now?

Ooops - a tad political.

What the crisis is showing is that many can work from home and the NHS is under-resourced. We need s major shift in thinking. This would make projects like HS2 pointless!

Don't start about HS2.

A TAD now that is an under statement did I miss something here ? Did we not just elect a Conservative Government with a Thumping Majority oh well the people got it wrong again. I could say a lot more but don't want to be banned !!!

Stay Safe Stay Well and Keep Voting Conservative LOL

My partner is chief ICU doctor in a large teaching hospital in Germany. They have a different health system from UK as they have compulsory health insurance for full & part time workers at 7% of wages, employers pay rest. He has said for years that the reason the doctors are so proactive in testing is that they charge the health insurance for them, so costs come from them, not a Trust or practice.

He is working 14 days at a time, he worked this weekend and when I asked about testing, he said yet again that neither he or his staff have been tested.

His ICU has several virus patients since last week.

We do need more testing all over. Starting with the health professionals and key workers at the front line. Always been the same here though the people on the front line have the least

Sending many thanks to your partner and all those working the front lines.

I try not to ask much about Wales' devolved NHS as when and if I do get answers they make me cross. I think I am right in saying the NHS here since it was devolved has pretty much consistently underperformed. I can't grumble about my care but I am pro-active. However, I do worry about other people who are not and some who cannot be pro-active. We have to make the best of what we have.

I live just outside Cardiff and I find it absolutely astonishing that every 'Trust' has its own empire , it's own patient numbers and lots of competing medical organisations, with another layer of empire building over reaching at 'national ' level. The German model seems to work, and has spare capacity when needed.

After paying 44 years of national insurance, I am completely disenchanted with the present political system. How to obtain change is the question.

Don't worry the Heath will look after you, I like that name a hospital after a Tory Prime Minister LOL

Well I would like to get rid of the Welsh Assembly. The money saved could go to the NHS (haven't I heard that somewhere before?) the Senedd building could be used as an emergency hospital.

Is Wales not part of the UK ? and counted in the UK figure for critical care beds

Milkfairy profile image

Hi Prada47

The NHS is divided into 4 parts by devolved governments.

Each have their own Chief Excutive, Chief Medical, Nursing and Midwifery Officers.

For England Sir Simon Stevens, Prof Chris Whitty, Ruth May and Prof Jacqueline Dunkley Bent

If you live in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland it's a different set of people and politicians responsible for your healthcare.

Absolutely. Most governments no odds what colour have underfunded the NHS. PFI - Pure Flippin' Idiocy

Wales apparently has 5.4 beds per 100,000. However plans are in place to close a few hospitals.( One of them being my local hospital) Should help no end.

Both Tory and Labour have ruined the NHS. We have a new hospital built by Blair reduced beds and not owned by the NHS. They have to pay crippling rents which takes up a lot of their budget. Conservatives constantly give tax cuts which do not make much diffrence to the average person, only the wealthy and constantly cut money to the NHS in real terms. As with all politicians it is lies , lies and more lies. As for shopping they tell the over 70's and vulnerable to stay at home but you have to go out to shop or starve. Where are all these hubs? No home delivery slots or click and collect available. Waitrose will only accept you if you are registered on the Government but unless you have Cancer or an immune deficiency illness you do not qualify.

The idiot advisors make things worse . David King said he" did not want 90 year old's clogging up the NHS and they should die at home and refuse treatment". Dominic Cummings said "Herd immunity save the economy if a few pensioners die too bad". I am pleased to announce that Cummings now has Corona virus. Should his condition deteriorate . too bad.

To be fair they backed off that particular plan when it was pointed out that hordes of tory voting pensioners lying dead in the streets might prove difficult to sell as a benefit in the next local elections?
