Hi.. it's almost 2 weeks since my CABG was done and I'm still getting some oozing from the bottom of my wound. Is this normal? Should I be concerned it's still not dried up?
I wouldn't say it's hor or sore particularly but of course I'm not a doctor.
Is the oozing coming from the scar or from where the drainage tubes were removed?
From the bottom of the scar. The drain tube scars seem to have healed up quite well.
morning, I had the same from my scar, not the drainage tubes, and was told its normal and would ease over time. Which it did, I did cover my wound with pads as well
was told to avoid soap and shower gel around the wound area, I cleaned the area with a saline solution on some gauze. It didn't stop weeping for about three or four weeks after I got home
Did you keep a wound bandage over the wound during showering etc.. then tak it off and clean around before applying a fresh bandage? I only realised today that no one gave me any advice on looking after the wound before I was discharged!
No, you have to remove the bandage for your shower. Have two towels ready, one for your wounds, assume you have a leg wound too? Reverse this when drying the chest and then the leg. Use the other towel to dry the rest of your body.
Avoid talc, deodorant etc in the wound area, making sure it is dry before applying a fresh wound covering. Any weeping areas should be additionally cleaned with a saline solution before being dried and a fresh dressing applied.

I am 7 weeks down the line and I have had a little trouble with my scar/drainage tubes. When they took the stitches out of the drainage scar 1 of them took a while to heal, I went to the drop in centre for them to dress it but told them I could do it myself which I did.
The top of my scar was a little uncomfortable and still is but my GP said that are takes longer to heal, other than that it has been okay - being a lady I don't think it was possible to cover the scar!
Hi there - this is quite normal and it usually dries up over a few weeks. If you notice the wound becomes red or hot to touch, becomes painful or starts oozing non-clear fluids or pus then you need to let your surgical team know straight away as these are signs it might be infected. If you need some tips on how to dress your wound in as sterile a way as possible to help keep infection at bay then you can always drop in and see your practice nurse.

My scar leaked at the top and bottom for around 4 weeks - eventually i found a small knot of stitching inside the lower wound. The practice nurse cut this off and the wound healed almost instantly. I also had a long piece of cotton like stitch at the top of the wound - when this was removed the top wound healed fast. Make sure you keep attending the nurse / wound clinic to avoid infection.
