Does having angina make me higher risk to covid 19?
Thanks
I have angina pectoris - I'm at no higher risk for catching the virus.
However, my cardiac team advised a few weeks ago I am in the 'vulnerable' (but not 'high-risk vulnerable') group and could have severe complications if I actually catch the virus. The cardiac nurse cited my angina as one of the reasons I am in the vulnerable group.
I also have Rheumatic Heart Disease with 'trivial' (my fav word of 2019!) aortic valve scarring, and recurrent pericarditis with a minor amount of pericardial effusion.
Again, according to my medics, I am at no higher risk of catching the virus - but AM at higher risk of severe complications should I catch it.
But. I am not you, you are not me - the only advice regarding your status as to risk of complications is your medic.
Angina by itself, to the best I can work out, doesn't put one into the 'high-risk vulnerable group. People deemed to be 'high-risk vulnerable' will be receiving a letter this week (23-28 Mar) advising them of their status - and to not contact GP or cardiac team until the 30th of March if no letter is received.
It's difficult, believe me I know - but wait a week to see if you get a letter, and then when you don't, telephone or email your doctor for guidance as to your status.
Hi Sbrighton
You are at ' particularly high risk' if your angina restricts your daily life and you need to use your GTN frequently according to the BHF coronavirus information
bhf.org.uk/informationsuppo...
However we all need to social distance with great care.
Stay safe and well
That's the best list delineating who is which group I've seen since this all began, thank-you for posting the link.
I think I'm going to stop replying to any of the 'Am I...' posts until the 30th at least when all the advisory letters have gone out and people have had a chance to telephone or email their doctors if still unsure of their status.
