Angiogram arm pain

Hi.

Just checking for other’s experience of arm pain and bruising after angiogram.

I had the procedure last Tuesday, there was no mention when I left if the potential for pain. The pain and bruising themselves aren’t bad ( paracetamol to get to sleep level only). I’m only really a concerned if it’s a cause for concern if you see what I mean

I’ve now read that there can be bruising for 2 /3 weeks. I’d be interested in any other experiences?

Another point is that the cardiologist took a long time to get the catheter in- several attempts, which may not have helped !

Thanks

Rob

Hi, I expect everyone is different, but for me it took a week to stop hurting and bruising was a few weeks. Rest is always the best medicine .

Hi Rob, I had a heart attack 5 weeks ago, had emergency Angiogram and a stent fitted. I had quite a lot of arm and shoulder pain for about 2.5 weeks. Rest and paracetamol helped.

Hi. Really helpful- I didn’t get any warning from the cath lab , which seems odd in that so many people seem to experience this

Thanks. Rob

Hi Warrington. I had an angiogram last September. My arm hurt for about two weeks after from where they inserted the catheter (the bruising took a lot longer to fully go though) but the top of my arm and chest hurt for a month after.

Hi. Reassuring thanks - I was going to go to the docs but I think I will leave it for a couple of weeks and stick with the paracetamol

Cheers

Hiya, Warrington15:) I had my angio and right heart study at the same time in late Nov 2019.

The bruising from the angio (at the wrist) lasted five weeks. The pain from the angiogram was mostly just a notch above ache, only really painful if I bumped it or when I wasn't careful about positioning when resting my wrist and forearm on the sofa or chair arm. That lasted about ten days as a little less ache/pain every day.

Yes, I'm weird - I logged it so I could keep track and would have been able to tell the doctor if it looked as though the recovery was wobbling.

The bruising and mild aching in my upper right leg (groin) from the right heart study took about two weeks to fully go away.
