I know this is not a medical site but I my GP does not gives me any clear advice. So maybe someone here can help.

I am taking colchicine (wich an anti-inflamatory drug) for miocarditis. There are news that anti-inflamatories worsen the symthomps of corona virus and have been linked to deaths in youth patients in France and Spain. I asked my GP if I should suspend the medication and the answer was to ask my cardiologist. My next appointment with the cardiologist is in two months. I have been trying to call the cardiologist but there is not answer. no one picks up the phone. I call 111 and they tell me to speak with the GP.

Does anyone knows if the link btw anti-inflatory drugs and corona virus is real or fake news?

thanks

Unfortuneately there is a lot of fake news about. Compared to 30 years ago the Internet offers many advantages such as up-to-date information and utilities like Skype and WhatsApp. It also has many disadvantages like fake news often spread on Facebook and Twitter . Recent fake news has included that garlic prevents you catching Coronavirus (it may help with social distancing) and that people of Afro-Caribbean descent cannot catch it.

There has been a lot of Internet traffic recently about drugs such as ACE inhibitors, statins and Ibrufen make those taking them that catch Coronavirus more likely to develop complications. These are all at the stage of being a hypothesis. The article in the Lancet even stated this.

I think we just have to await definitive statements on this.

The question was just asked on a "special" on news there is evidence that as our bodies try to fight the virus they swell to protect our organs so taking anti inflammatory like ibuprofen stops that process if you have coronavirus so in this instance Facebook and social media are sort of right.

The report about anti-inflammatory drugs worsening the virus condition referred to iboprofen based drugs. Colchicine is not one of these. And in any case the BBC Radio 4 comment I heard stated that the story is fake news. Keep calm , stay safe and carry on.
