I’m copying this link in the hope that it will help in understanding how the whole social distancing/isolation works and how in the process we can make a big difference.
Understandably there’s a lot of concern and anxiety and criticism of what should/shouldn’t be done. For me personally I don’t expect to get to a date and then be informed what to do, I’m trying to make choice now on the basis of the (valid and accurate) information available and whilst I don’t relish social isolation I recognise it’s not just helping me but others too.
Thank you for this post, an easily understood model of how social distancing effects how a virus is passed about.
I'm under 70, but I'm in the group that Matt Hancock called younger people with certain health conditions who will be asked to self isolate for 4 months. If we all carry on as normal it will be those of us on this forum who are most likely to need intensive care to keep us alive and would overload the NHS completely, so the idea that we try to avoid social contact as much as possible during the period when the number of cases is peaking until herd immunity stops transmission and the virus dies away makes sense to me.
In the meantime, prior to the government making that call, I'm already making a few changes, I've stopped going to football matches, avoid busy pubs and restaurants and basically thinking a bit more about my actions than I have in the past.
