Since having my HA in November I struggle to get a full nights sleep. Now back at work this appears to be getting worse. I am wondering if anyone out there can put some ideas my way to improve my quality of sleep. I would just like to get past the 3.00 a.m. cut off point that I appear to have

Hi Pepper,
Tricky to give you a magic bullet answer I am afraid. Start by working out why it is you can't sleep. Stress and anxiety, pain, needing the loo or a multitude of things. Then deal with them one by one. For example if stress is the issue try speaking to someone about your concerns, here is good. Talking therapy really works. I would try and find a good book and read before bed to help you relax. Avoid caffeine and fizzy drinks, take warm milk before bed, don't use a phone or tab before bed, and many more.
I couldn't sleep for a few weeks after my heart op and I hated going to bed, really dreaded it. I sort help and spoke to a therapist in the end, tablets are only a stop gap. It all worked out for me and I am sure it will do for you too, it often just takes time.
Good luck
Peter
Thanks for you reply Peter the stress and anxiety I have sorted. The warm drink does not agree with me. I always read before bed as that usually gets me to feel tired enough to sleep. For me it is the staying asleep. Always around 2.30 to 3.00 a.m I am awake, wide awake too. The sleep that I have is good, the trying to get back to sleep is almost non-existant. I do two good walks aday am active in work too. Due to the meds already I will not take any for sleeping. As you say no magic wand here!
When I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn’t get to sleep I got up and walked around the flat, looked out of the window and made myself a cup of camomile tea. I only put on minimal lighting to ensure I didn’t fall over anything. The herb tea helped. Eventually I got back into a routine and can get straight back to sleep now after a toilet break. My GP told me that if I was dehydrated i would wake up so I always drink plenty of water and take a cup to bed in case I’m parched during the night. I found out that it was the neighbours waking me up at 3:00 am so spoke to them. They only wake me up at midnight now!
