Hi, my hubby had a quadruple bypass in April 2018 after a second HA. He was on rivaroxaban ( anticoagulant) and amiodorone (for atrial fibrillation) following his surgery. At his follow up 8 weeks later these two meds were stopped and he was told to just take aspirin - about 10 days later he had a “ small but significant “ stroke that initially caused him to lose part of his visual field and to be unable to find the words he wanted and common things like dressing himself. His mobility was really unaffected although impacted by his eyesight.

His eyesight has recovered and he is able to drive again. His memory has improved, as has his word finding ability. He still has to think hard when doing things like making a cup of tea but is generally about 98% of where he was before!

Confidence is a big issue but setting small and achievable goals helps.

I wish you and your hubby al the best. Make sure you look after yourself too!

Hi - I agree about the lack of support! This forum has kept me sane - just wish I had found it sooner!

You have to notify DVLA if the effects of the stroke last more than a month and can restart driving when your gp says it’s ok. Bob had an eye appointment with one of the stroke team and found out that his eyesight was up to driving standards so got checked at specsavers and then spoke to gp and DVLA.

The heart issues may have more bearing on his driving but the Drivers Medical people at DVLA are usually very helpful and knowledgeable.

Take care.
