Hi! You have to stop driving for a minimum of four weeks and only resume when you have the all clear from your GP or cardiologist.

There are different guidelines in the event of a cardiac arrest.

I was advised by the hospital to stop driving for 1 week (I did also check the DVLA website) after my heart attack, I had 1 stent and no further problems.

This is what is advised on the DVLA website, gov.uk/heart-attacks-and-dr...

You must also advise you insurance company

I had HA , and 4 stents 5 weeks ago. Discharge papers said 4 weeks. Worried about what 'Thatwasunexpected' says that this may indicate a possibility of further procedures? I am at the cardiovascular clinic tomorrow.

Hi, I week and I didn’t have to inform insurance company, mind you I was still so ill it was several weeks later before I felt confident enough to drive.

Ask your cardiologist. I was only off for a week and advised not to inform DVLA.

I was told no driving for 4 weeks after my heart attack, cardiac arrest and 2 stents. I also talked to my insurance company about it but they were completely relaxed as long as it was okay with the medics. In the mean time the wife's been doing her best to wreck the no claims bonus...

Obviously any heart patient must follow the DVLA guidelines but must get the OK from their GP or cardiologist before resuming driving. Also inform your insurance company and note when you do this so you are not caught out in the future. It is also important to remember this on renewal if you change companies.

I was told no driving for 1 month following HA and stents, 1 week following 2nd angioplasty/stent as per DVLA guidelines. Informed insurance company as advised but they weren't really bothered as long as I followed guidelines.

When I came out of hospital in June 2018 from having an NSTEMI, they did an Angiogram, but no stenting as my arteries were quite healthy for a 58yr old, more type1 diabetes related, I was told one week not to drive. Also, make sure you inform DVLA.

I was told 4 weeks but because I had to go back for a pressure angiogram it was a bit longer. I did ring DVLA just to be on the safe side and my insurers. Neither was interested. Insurance just said "Well you are better now than you were so it's not a problem.

Def look at gov.uk/heart-attacks-and-dr.... But you MUST inform your insurance company - if you do not you may find you are not covered when you restart driving (record the call). I have had to do this 3 times for my husband and myself with no problems.
