What tests happen before bypass surgery
Usually bypass is done after an angiogram (wire and camera inserted in the wrist) has shown one or more of the arteries supplying blood to the heart is more than 70% blocked by plaque and cannot be stented following a heart attack. Then you may have a MRI scan and a echocardiogram (ultrasound scan) to see if there is damage to the inside or outside of the heart itself. Hope this helps.
You will probably have a full spectrum blood test, blood pressure, and be wired up for an ECG, as well as the items mentioned by Tikkiqueen. You will also be advised regarding anticoagulation.
They give you a booklet of everything that can go wrong my advice is don't read it. Trust the surgeon and the medical staff and everything will be ok.
after my angiogram they decided not to send me home and do a bypass, I was on constant monitoring before I had the op some 7 days later. I had bloods, xray's, Doppler done of my arteries in my neck, scan of my heart and also scan of my arm arteries to see if any could be used in the bypass. Had my bypass in March 2018.
