Hi Marnie76

Welcome to the forum

I suggest you talk to your Occupational Health department.

They usually write to your managers advising a phased return to work and other changes and possible adjustments to your working day including what you physically will be able to do.

Take all your clinic letters from your specialist when you go to see the OH nurse or doctor.

Hello and welcome to the forum! You really need to talk to your GP/cardiologist as no one here knows anything about your overall health and what damage may have been done by the heart attack. I imagine as a nurse you also need to talk to occupational health.

Hi Marnie76,

I had my NSTEMI October 14th and a double length stent put in a few days later. I am still not back at work but will be doing a phased return early in the new year. My GP is happy for me to go back sooner, cardio rehab have told me not to rush back yet. My boss would like me back as of yesterday or sooner! It's hard for healthcare workers at this time of year as we know only too well the impact of us being off to patients and colleagues. Unfortunately, this is one time we have to put our own needs first. I am glad I didn't go back sooner as my medications needed altering slightly! Also, it might be a little hard for employers who may expect us to work at the same pace as previously, only to find out that we need to walk before we can run again. I certainly cannot manage to do a 2 hour non stop drug round at the moment and I realise that may be an issue.

I have only recently started cardio rehab. Two weeks into it now and would recommend it to anyone. It certainly showed me that I may be expecting a little bit much of myself early into my recovery. The staff are lovely and the other service users are a good support network.

I hope you find the answers and advice that you need. This is my first post so if I have done it all wrong, I do apologise. Molly xx

Hi Marnie76. I think it's all been said!

You'll need some time to build yourself up again after the bypass and get your immune system up to speed!

Hope you have a lovely Christmas and an amazing New Year xxx

I had a quadruple bypass in 2017,i work as community support (health rehabilitation) I went back to work approximately 5 months post surgery. I work for adult social care and they were very supportive. Apart from dropping my senior role. I was phased back. I also have adjusted my work hours so start later and don't work late as get tired.

I have since had another MI in August this year, and will be returning to work soon being medically treated.

Good luck. And definitely do the rehab. ❤️

Hi

I had triple bypass 4 years ago I think it depends on how you recover and how you feel I had a bad recovery but wouldnt go back too soon after bypass surgery you have rehabilitation classes for six weeks. Hope this helps remember this is the biggest operation you will ever have
