Advice on Pulmonary and Aortic Leak

Hey, Just wondered if anyone had any advice on Pulmonary or Aortic leaks? I am 39 and have two small children so I am terrified.

I have experienced chest pain for a while and have trouble breathing when laying flat. Saw my GP 5 times always told I must have anxiety.

Been to A&E twice again bloods, Blood pressure, chest xray, ECG all fine but I still didn't feel fine.

So paid for a private echocardiogram which has shown two leaks. I'm taking the results to my GP. But after being fobbed off by everyone im worried something bad is going to happen to me.

The GP has dismissed my symptoms as nothing to do with the leaks saying maybe I have anxiety.

Does anyone have advice on next steps?

I am going to ask for ferritin test, diabetes, and cholesterol check at the GP. Sorry, I realise I am probably at the beginning of this journey. So apologies if I sound like a drama queen.

I cant find anything on google (i know its awful to google) why I would have these leaks that could relate to me.

Valve regurgitation is graded trivial/mild/moderate/severe. It doesn't cause symptoms unless severe, and often not even then. You don't say what grade your valve regurgitation is. I have moderate aortic regurgitation and it doesn't impact my life at all.

Do you otherwise lead a healthy lifestyle and have a healthy BMI? 39 is a good time to resolve to lead a healthy lifestyle and improve diet and exercise. The fact that you are worried about diabetes suggests you may have some generalised health anxiety.

Chest pain can have many causes.

When your GP sees your echo he will see if there is anything that needs following up. Often an echo will show minor abnormalities while being basically normal.

All the best

The poster has had blood tests at A&E , BP checked, a chest Xray, ECG which were all clear. She has now had an echo which shows valve problems which we don't know anything about the severity of, and which may be totally minor. Anxiety is often a legitimate diagnosis.

I don't think it's helpful to say she should have surgery asap or ( rather offensively) that her GP is a cretin just focussed on money. There is no evidence for either of these statements.

I am just pointing out we are not supposed to diagnose e.g. your statement of the need for speedy surgery.

Calling her GP a cretin focussed on money is not helpful either.

There was nothing disrespectful about my disagreement.

You've had a private echo which showed two leaks. You say you're taking the results to your GP - perhaps, rather than your GP at this point, as you are still having symptoms the better next step would be a consult with a private cardiologist. If he/she feels your echo shows something significant he/she will write up a treatment advisement and refer you back to your GP - something your GP will not be able to define as 'anxiety'.

I am not medically trained so the best advice will only come from a trained medical professional.
