Just a quick question, is there anybody out there that has had a valve replacement, is on Wafarin and has been skiing? I realise the warfarin risk, was just wondering if I'd be able to do a couple of lessons, nothing hectic or is it a crazy idea?
I'm fit, play tennis etc
I have messaged my Consultant so will see what he says!

Skiing was on my to do list but have assumed I would not be able to now as have a valve and on Wafarin. So if you get no replies can you post your reply from your consultant? Thanks.
I would be concerned about head injury with a fall - really dangerous on warfarin. We used to horse ride but when my husband was on warfarin we gave it up, I was just too worried.
Since you are talking about taking lessons it's not as if you are already a passionate skier faced with giving up something you adore. There are lots of other fun things to do in the snow. I really recommend snow shoeing - a marvellous way to get into the peace and beauty of mountains in real nature.
Cross - country ski if you must, but to me downhill skiing would be a risk too far. If you do decide to do it and hit your head a CT scan within 8 hours is recommended.
I had an avr done in1974 since then I've paraglided from 6000 ft. Mountain biked and fell off many times climbed mountains. Sailed yachts up to 40ft round the west coast(as skipper) in force 9 gales and been thrown about like a Cork in a bottle. Fell off house roof a the same day I was going for my annual checkup. Consultant said she only did hearts not broken bones. Just as well I did not have any am now 72 my wife is a nervous wreck. I can't for the life of me think why. If you are young enjoy yourself you only live once an armchair is no fun
Absolutely love this! Sounds just like me! I've endured two bouts of Cancer, stroke and double VR last year amongst a few of my medical dramas. I love life have lived in 5 countries, Africa & Middle East. Am turning 50 later this year .... so thankful I've got this far and intend on doing a lot more exciting fun with my life and gorgeous family.
