So.. on Monday 11th November my dad had a cardiac arrest, this was in a bus station, there was a police man there when it happened and managed to give him CPR thankfully! He was unconscious and had to have a stent in one of the main veins to his heart.... turns out he has colinary heart disease which he didn’t know about, they managed to get him stable, and breathing on his own but has intubated him and sedated him. He has been like this for 6 days now! They keep trying to wake him up but he keeps getting delirium and confused so they tried a different medication (not sure if it’s name) to try and subside the confusion but unfortunately it hasn’t been successful, there are now talks about putting a tracheostomy in as WE STILL DO NOT KNOW THE DAMAGE THAT THE LACK OF OXYGEN HAS CAUSED THE BRAIN!
Has anyone else been through this or know anyone who has? As I am running out of hope and I am getting poorly from it!
ANY ANSWERS WELCOMED
THANK YOU

I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. My thoughts are with you ..... please do have a word with the staff at the hospital. I'm sure they will be the best ones to ask and reassure as they know the 'ins and outs'. If you're struggling with that and not happy, you can (I believe) ask to speak to the matron of cardiology, though I'm guessing and hoping this won't be necessary. I hope your dad gets through this, for his and all your sakes - the family. Please keep us posted.
Hi I have gone through the exact same thing please read my last post , it’s was only a few weeks ago ... I to was suffering really bad with delirium and they kept trying to bring me in and out it is a very scary experience but eventually I think your body and brain let’s you come out of it ok 👍 my family where terrified as you where but relax if you can he will be ok as I was. He will probably be a bit confused when he comes round as I was butt will be ok after few days , I hope he has a full recovery and wish you all the best
Thank you so much for this post how long was you in the hospital for? And it’s nice to ready stories similar to my fathers and coming out the other end ok! They have woke him 4 times now and had to sedate him again 4 times how long does the delirium last? Sorry for all the questions
I would just like to say that I wish you and your family the best news. I haven't been through what you are going through , but I can feel the pain and panic in your post. My best wishes for you and your family love Sheena. X
Hello and welcome to the forum! A friend's father was very confused after a heart attack where he had to be shocked. He said that initially when he visited that his father spoke total rubbish. However it all normalised after a few days and he returned to work two months later. One person at rehab was put back under after he woke from open heart surgery and was confused and aggressive.
Sometimes recovery can take weeks rather than days. Where there is life there is hope and everybody here hopes for a positive outcome for your father. Playing someone their favourite music had been shown to help clear the fog.
Your welcome and ask as much as you like it really helps to talk believe me ... I was in for 3 weeks and they also tried two wake me about 4 times and then eventually came round so after your brought round you then move to another ward and a couple of days after that I slowly came round .. so it does take a bit of time to get back in to reality for him so bear with it and it will come good in the end ... please feel free to ask me about any of it or him in the near future as the delirium subject is quite rare on some of these forums but in my experience it was more scary to deal with that to start with then the actual cpr cardiac arrest heart attack stents lol and all at 40 yrs old
