Heart failure ????

Hello all,

I have had my heart scan last Sunday for Heart failure symptoms and I am waiting on my results how Long does it take.

My symptoms are:

One leg feels tight as it is going to burst and my ankles swells only a bit

Coughing really bad for over 9 months

Out of breath easily

My chest xray revealed enlarged heart

I have put on weight and my stomach has gone bigger

I am anxious as throughout my life I have been anaemic and no one knew why.

I mean what else can it be. I have also been referred to the haematologist.

I just need to know if it is heart failure as no one is saying anything apart from a consultant at the hospital.

If you've not been given an appt for the results I would ask your GP to chase it or ring your consultants secretary.

Does the symptoms resemble heart failure though?

I know you're really worried but we can't diagnose. Maybe ring the BHF nurses tomorrow and ask their advice.

I doubt whether any of us could- or should-diagnose any or all of your symptoms on-line. Everyone is different from everyone else and there are no one size fits all diseases, Talking about your condition with an expert who has skills, experience as well diagnostic tools (blood tests, this, that and another "...grams" etc) face to face is what consultations are about. Chase up the result with your GP. And good luck.

I had to wait 6 weeks for the results of my cardiac MRI scan and whilst I knew that if there was something wrong they would , hopefully, let me know straight away it was the worst time ever not knowing. Please just keep in touch with your GP and report any concerns, or, as previously suggested, ring BHF for professional help.

waited for ages for my results in the end my respiratory consultant chased them so he could rule out heart failure and thats when I found out I had been living with it for 10 years

Hi fuschiapink41,

Have you heard anything yet? I'm in same boat as yourself. Swelling, breathlessness etc and had an echocardiogram on Monday. My appointment for results has been put back til end of November. X

Hi,

I found out last week as I asked my doctor to chase the results.

Anyway I have a leaky valve (mitral) which is not serious.

But the consultant has referred me to the respiratory as I still have a cough.

The consultant also referred me to the haematologist clinic but I have been waiting ages both appointments will take around 8 to 9 weeks just to get an appointment.

So what I thought I had which was heart failure, i do not have.

Hope this helps.
