METALLOSIS: I had a metal-on-metal hip resurfacting (Smith and Nephew in Birmingham) 13 years ago and now have a high level of cobalt in my blood from friction over the years. Recent research (mainly in the USA) has shown high levels can precipitate heart problems as well as other symptoms .... neurological , kidney malfunction etc. I am wondering whether this has caused my SVT. Has anyone else have associated heart problems with high readings of cobalt? The problem is recognised in the UK, regular testing is done but apart from localised joint degeneration the long term effects are not publicly acknowledged yet, probably because of the HUGE cost implications as the only treatment is replacement (millions of cobalt containing joint replacements in the world). In the USA, yes it is acknowledged. Any comments gratefully received!

Thanks for the post - I thought they were titanium like the plates on my femur.
My hip replacement was postponed because of angina and a subsequent bypass. Sounds like I need to research this and besides a HeartStar become a HipSter!
