I was recently started on statins and an ACE inhibitor as my numbers were not good (BP, cholesterol, UBA1C and BMI). So far so good as despite what I have read no side effects. Will start improving diet tomorrow as three meats family roast tonight - kids and grandkids coming over!

How do others find these meds? Daily Mail seems anti statin!

The daily mail is also known as the dally fail!! My husband has been on atorvastatin for 15+ years, our friend who we saw yesterday has been on simvastatin since the 90's and neither of them have ever had any problems or side effects. My husband also took lisinopril for bout 15 years without any problems, he now takes candesartan & again has not had any problems, he been taking this since about 2014.

Hello and welcome to the forum! I have been on a statin and ACE inhibitor since 2010 without problems although I had to change from Simvastatin to Atorvastatin because if some muscle aches. There is a multitude of statins and doses, and usually one to suit everyone. May I ask which one you are on?

The last figure you mention is actually HbA1c which is a measure of your average blood sugar over the preceding weeks. Do you know what the value was? It sounds very much as if you are pre-diabetic. A sensible move would be to limit your total carbs to around 100 grams per day in a Mediterranean style diet. There is a fair amount of the information about diet on both the BHF and Diabetes UK websites. Complex carbs rather than refined ones are recommended. Good luck!

Any questions just ask.

Thank you all for your speedy replies on a Sunday afternoon. It is reassuring that to know you good folks are here to help.

Everyone had left now and I will be doing the pots and pans after my partner had done the breakables (I am nothing if not clumsy). Maybe just one more glass of wine. Thanks again!

I do urge you to look at the BHF information pamphlets and not trust any other information source including Dr Google. I also suspect that you might be in denial about the need to review and change your diet. It is perhaps the most important thing you can do. Good luck.

Statins and the general public is one thing, statins and heart patients another. Read up sensible, non sensationalist options and discuss with doctors/ consultants etc.
