£2387.10 per year for my new dose of Entresto! 😱 And that's just one of five medications I take regularly! Puts my £26k device into perspective - maybe not the most costly aspect of my treatment after all. I feel equal parts grateful and guilty...
Treatment for heart attack/cardiac arrest, in hospital for 6 days. Been to cardio rehab, taking 13 pills a day, just had ICD implanted, going back to rehab in Oct. Back and forth to doctors, HF nurse, hospital etc.
I must have cost the NHS a small fortune in the last 9 months and feel quite guilty about it. I've never had to call on the NHS for any problem in my life until this point, and didn't really think about it much prior to my event, but now I'm so grateful for it being there to support me so well. I never understood why people were so protective about the NHS, now I understand.
I was just posting this as a matter of fact, Is it the reason why Entresto can only be issued by Heart Failure Specialists my main reason for the post.
sorry I can't The link was sent to me about NICE and Heart Failure it wasn't a generic list of medicine prices. Maybe Michael could shed some light on this subject ??
Some meds are crazily expensive and this can be a major reason why the costs of the NHS are ever increasing the drugs bill.
However, as spritofthefloyd, it makes me incredibly protective of the NHS and very concerned re the prospect of closer integration with the USA in trade deals. There are companies there who are queuing up to get access to the UK health system, such a potential for profit!
All you have to do is look at the medical bills faced by US citizens. For those without comprehensive medical insurance, ill health can lead to bankruptcy....or worse.
I am genuinely scared, we all have to be aware of these challenges but, tbh, in the face of big business, I'm not sure what can be done. Write a letter to your MP stating in no uncertain terms that the NHS is not on the negotiating table at trade talks and for them to resist any more smaller scale privatisation, death by a thousand cuts.
Okay, rant over! Off to take dogs for a walk, get some exercise and hopefully save the NHS some money!
