My palpitations and symptoms are worse when lying down trying to sleep. They improve when I'm up and about. Any reason for this does anyone know? It's frustrating as it's adding to my frequent insomnia.

My cardiologist said I’d feel the palpitations more if I slept on my left, so I changed to my right.

Hello I have SVT and AF

I also feel more on laying down

I sleep on my left as I feel more if ts laying on my right

I think because it’s quiet and probably listening for it

That’s my take on it don’t know whether that’s right

The heart is slightly more to the left in the body. I think it’s probably weight on the left that makes you feel it more.

This is very common and due to the fact that the autonomic nervous system slows the heart down at night, essentially giving more time between beats for ectopics to fire. It's also made worse if you eat a late or heavy meal. This is a common aspect of "vagal" a-fib (you don't say whether you have been diagnosed or not, I'm not saying that this is what you have, just drawing a parallel, which in my case is true). As folk have said, lying on your right will for many folk improve matters. Another thing is, do you have indigestion/burping. If so this is likely to be connected and it's worth getting something like Ranitidine prescribed to damp that down - the heart and the gut are on the same "vagus" nerve. Good luck.

Thanks - tend to get burping after an episode - diagnosed only with Atrial Tachycardia - so far but my Kardia frequently says possible AF

Thanks for that - how do you diagnose ‘vagal’ a-fib - I’m trying to capture things on my Kardia 6L

I have dilated cardiomyopathy and this means my heart is struggling to push the blood out ( left ventricle), put simply. When I lie down, I feel breathless and get a squashed feeling. Before meds, this would wake me up. I would also feel palpitations and when bad, my lungs would be wheezing etc. All a result of the DCM. I sleep propped up on pillows still , although I feel much better now my meds are up to the max. I also feel it all more when I lie on the left.

Hope you find some answers that help with the symptoms soon!

I have VSD, and I also experienced palpitations at night. But my doctor said it sometimes due to usual worrying about my sickness. So I tried to relax myself and be calm not only during at night but even in the morning, and not to think my heart problem, and it works. I sleep well at night and worry no more.

Yes it does happen. I found raising pillow and sleeping on right side very helpful.
