A relative has a heart condition, now doctors advise liver and kidney not functioning properly. They are planning to fit a pacemaker but if it is not successful then they have advised there is nothing more they can do for him.
Im just after more of an explanation into what this all means/entails.
Any information or experiences of this would really be appreciated
Thankyou

Hello Kades85. All i can tell you is. I one morning woke up with a sore throat and a cough. Plus shortness of breath. Only 6 weeks ago. For some reason this was when my heart rate dropped to 40. Which should be 80 beats per miniute. Decided i need a pacemaker. Now breathlessness has gone. And been told it should improve my kidney function as well. Cause i have chronic kidney disease. A pacemaker i think can only help. It only takes 90 mins to do. And although you are drosy/Awake. Its nothing to be scared of. All you feel is pushing and tugging a bit. No real pain at all. Hope this helps. Hope all goes well for your relative. If you think about it. If your hearts not pumping right. Blood and oxygen amounts are not getting to other organs around your body BRIAN
I'm sorry you have these concerns regarding your relative.
The heart has so many important roles in helping the body to work well, so if something goes wrong with it, it can affect how the the whole body works including major organs such as the liver and kidneys.
Pacemakers vary in the way they work- sometimes it's because the conduction( electrical) system in the heart is faulty, other types can help the heart to pump more effectively and protect it from dangerous heart rhythms that can sometimes happen if the heart muscle is weak or damaged. It might be a good idea to talk to the doctor to find out why they want to do the procedure.
If you want to talk to a cardiac nurse for further advice, please ring the heart helpline 0300-330-3311. There is someone to talk to Monday- Friday from 9-5.
