Chest pain and chewing gum...

A few days I have really painful acid reflux, mixed with indegestion which gave me chest pain, so got onto the internet and one suggestion was to chew gum. Gum generate saliva which is alkaline and netralises the acid in the esophagus....and it works. No side effects either.
