Spare tyres!

Hi All, I agree with you , struggling with trying to loose weight ,I seem to be getting bigger around tummy area! I try to keep under 1000 cal a day but the weight isn't shifting at all. I did wonder if it was due to medication. Bisoprolol was changed to Nebivolol earlier in the week as the tiredness I felt was getting me down, also with my bowel problem which is still a problem iam getting really p----d off! Pleased it not just me, also as I have stopped smoking since the day of my heart attacks I have been very cautious not to rely on food to compensate the cigs. Having a few days away so hope the rest will do me good. Just hope there are plenty of services on the motorway or I will be in trouble. Best wishes to everyone. Xx

Have you any ankle swelling? If so you might be retaining fluid and need a diuretic. Bisoprolol does not cause weight gain as such but often the initial tiredness and maybe less exercise cause weight gain.

Many GPs can prescribe a 12 week WW or Slimming World course.

Hello

Believe it or not but you might not be eating enough. If you eat to few calories your body can go into starvation mode (look it up) and you end up accumulating more body fat.

There is a weightloss forum on here somewhere, you should look into it.

Good luck.

I’ve taken time off too Redsea. Decided to have a few days in the Dales and feel much happier in myself but no better physically. My GP referred me to Slimming World but by the time they get round to seeing me the tyre will the size of a tractor’s. I am able to do less and less and think it’s definitely the meds. Got another GP appointment soon. Enjoy the break Redsea.

Sadly think the majority of us have this Middle age Spread. Only thing i found helped was exercise. Treadmill. And Rowing Machine especially for around the middle. Just need to keep doing it to keep the weight off. But do accept not everyone can do this much. Plus it is harder as you get older

The thing is if you work out how many calories you should be consuming daily then you wouldn't have to depend on all of the exercise that you are doing.

Weight management is more to do with diet not exercise, you don't need to exercise to lose weight.

Permanent caloric restriction will not help you to achieve your objectives.

I eat until I'm satiated and can do so because I eat primarily high fiber and calorically sparse foods such as legumes, vegetables and fruits. I supplement these with calorically dense healthy fiber and fat-rich foods such as olives, avocado, fish, nuts and seeds. I limit calorically dense animal proteins such as poultry to only a couple of meals per week.

I consume small amounts of aged and fermented dairy as found in aged scandinavian cheeses and plain Greek yogurt in moderation. I consume 4 boiled eggs per week.

I completely avoid all sugars and sugar substitutes, refined and simple carbohydrates, and processed foods.

This is essentially the Mediterranean Diet - follow this diet and you will lose unwanted body fat.

You must also combine this diet with daily exercise, and a commitment to getting as close to 8 hours sleep as possible.

For most people, pharmaceuticals are only band-aid solutions meant to address acute illness which has manifested after an extended period of poor dietary and lifestyle choices.

A commitment to a healthy diet and lifestyle will provide the foundation upon which your health can begin to improve and, hopefully, to the point where the interventional surgeries and pharmaceuticals can be eliminated.

Good luck.

I eat pretty much the same as sos007 and I've lost 2st over the last 2-3 years, mostly from my midriff. I have to say though that the term 'processed' would technically include scrambled eggs, homemade houmous and hone-milled flax seeds (etc, etc), all of which I'm happy to eat. I like the description 'real food' to distinguish from most bought pre-prepared food which almost inevitably contains some ingredients that have had nutrition removed in some way.

As we all know, weight accumulating around the midriff is not a good thing & can be a sign of insulin resistance so might be a good idea to have your blood sugar checked if you have not already done so. I think it unlikely to be caused by medication as such but if you fear it is, ask for it to be reviewed/changed.
