Hubby had HA in December, one stent fitted via angioplasty. He is 61. Non smoker, hardly ever drinks. He has recent completed the hospital based cardio rehab classes and can now move on to the classes at our local sports centre. His METS score has improved from 4.3 to 5.8 and he has lost around 1.5 stone. No other health problems. Last few weeks however he has developed muscle pain in shoulders and neck, radiating down arms. Sounds like myalgia, but seems strange to come on 6 months after starting taking statin (Atorvastatin). Am going to make doctors appt for a review, but any thoughts or suggestions or experiences similar to this out there ?

Muscle pain from statin??
Definitely speak to the Dr to establish if it is the statin. Most people are able to tolerate them whereas otherd do suffer from side effects. Perhaps a different type of statin would be the answer.
Has he started at the sports centre? Our local one has equipment (particularly strength training) not at rehab that you are encouraged to use. I now avoid one piece as it seems to cause shoulder aches. Many hearties are older and not gym bunnies! ☹️
Hi Picasso
I was similar, one stent, 58 and apparently at low risk... but pleased with the improvement overall so very grateful.
I found hospital gym programme helpful, if only to help me to slow down and expect steady improvement. Local gym programme follow on was excellent (Kimberley and Nottingham) as the coach tailored exercises to my need/ability. I have experienced some musculoskeletal (non-cardio) pain in my sternum which is currently not fully understood, but I think I have learned how to manage it through exercise.
Talk with the GP, (I assume you mentioned it to rehab physios??) and discuss with a coach at the gym - some pains can come from unequal mobilisation of muscles front to back, and tension from more using muscles that were underused previously.
Hope my bit of a non-answer helps you formulate an action plan.
Best of luck.
