My Lucky Day

Sunday 11 August 10 pm walking along the promenade on the Costa del Sol in 30 degree heat after a family meal

Having already clocked up over 15,000 steps walking to the Marina in the morning (more than twice my daily target of 6,000) I am beginning to feel light-headed and wander off course

I am getting slower and slower and I am actually overtaken by someone on crutches!

At that point my Peruvian wife's cousin kindly slips her arm through mine to keep me on a straight path -I think I have seen sympathetic nurses do this in hospital

Her husband is walking on ahead and I am rather worried that he might object

But I am assured that he knows that we are close and he doesn't mind a bit as it is all "family" and she has done the same for his father

Now we are back to typical English summer weather but the heat over there was a killer

Probably hypotension. Heat opens up the arteries and combined with medication BP through the floor! It's why so many hearties struggled a few weeks ago!

I can imagine. My very first angina "incident" happened 3 years ago in Spain, while walking the coastal path near Palafrugell . It was 35°c and suddenly I just could not breathe. Very scary. I used to love the sun but nowadays I have to avoid it above 25°c .

Might have been the combination of the heat and walking after a meal. I don't know the exact process but there will be a bigger requirement for resources by the digestive system after a meal.

I recognise those exact symptoms with the heat. I find drinking lots before I go does wonders in the heat. I call it pre-loading, but with water, not alcohol!j

I don't think there's any suggestion that the poster is trying to undo what he ate with actively! I think it's also been said recently by the admins of the group that we should not be advising people to take extreme lifestyle changes. As a high fat diet is completely against the BHF recommended diet I would suggest the poster consult his medical to discuss his diet.

Glad to hear it, health issues would also include diets!!

I agree with Kristin and think that dehydration had a lot to do with it. I had a similar experience, on the Costa del Sol coincidentally. I found myself crawling on the floor, dizzy gasping for breath. The cause was lack of water and maybe too much alcohol.
