Hyperthyroid and heart failure

Last year I had left ventricular failure with a ejection fraction of 35 but the last test was an ej of 55. I take ramipril 2x 5mg and have been told to stay on it for life as an article in the lancet says if I stop my heart failure could return. Is this correct.

I have also been hyperthyroid for several year and take carbomazole and my blood results are now normal however the thyroid doctors now want me to have radiation treatment due my heart condition which will leave me hypothyroid. As I feel well should I have to have this treatment?

I'm in the same place as you are hunni I am on 10mg ramipril 7.5 bisoprisol 40 ferusomide and 25mg spiralactone when I asked to reduce or come off my medication was told I was at risk of it returning so I can emphasise with you I still get breathless and pain but can cope with this as the meds keep me stable x

Hello

No expert on this but I believe Heart Failure is not Currently Reversible, Ejection Fraction can and does improve with Medication so if you stop Medication EF may reduce again !! It's one of those things you need to consult GP or Cardiology on

Not much help but best I can do

Thank you, it seems I have to take them forever even though I improve.

Are there any pills better than ramipril as they make me very drowsy and I have a cough particularly in the evening.

I have read about and experienced the Ramipril Cough, I was switched from Ramipril to Candesartan and it got rid of the cough. Sure others will comment on this subject regards

Completely agree with Prada47, HF is not reversible or curable, it's your meds that have improved your EF. You do need to speak to your cardiologist or GP for advice
